We have been made aware of a distressing image doing the rounds today, suggesting Tottenham have beaten us 3-1. This has clearly been photoshopped, and we will be taking this up with the relevant authorities. Even we'd beat Spurs...

@Kurt_Bimpson @dynllandeilo @GMB Absolutely. We were told at the time that it would be like the equivalent of paying a phone contract monthly and not too worry. My monthly repayment is nearly £400. Bloody expensive phone contract 🤪

@dynllandeilo @GMB Teenagers not understanding the ramifications is a key aspect. These were not informed adults making these decisions Anecdotally, adults at the time told students this debt would be very manageable and the interest was not presented as how it has ended up

Good Morning Britain
Georgia Pickford started her degree in September 2017 and borrowed a total of £64,000 to cover her undergraduate and masters degree. Her total debt is now £85,000 today. This is despite making estimated repayments of £9,000 since she graduated. She is joined by Labour MP Chris Curtis, who is himself £40,000 in debt, as they discus the need for the government to overhaul the student loan system. @susannareid100 | @edballs

Chris Curtis: “This is a straight fight between us and Reform” .@Peston “You don’t believe that for a second’” Labour MP Chris Curtis says the Greens ‘will not win’ the Gorton and Denton by-election, but is ‘scared’ of Reform repeating last year's result in Runcorn #Peston

@ChrisLew300 @vicderbyshire 3.2% is the lowest the interest rate can currently be with Plan 2. I have provided that information and I’m on 6.2%. Maybe he’s got the right idea…

@truthbetold1x @IGMansfield I completely agree that the Tories are wholly responsible for the situation we’re in. However the ‘do nothing’ approach, planned freeze until 2030 and subsequent increased repayments isn’t much of an alternative to what we’ve become use to under Tory Govs…

@IGMansfield Tory student loans regime. The Tories imposed ruinous interest rates. The Tories imposed repeated freezes on the income threshold for payments. This means thousands of graduates have been dragged into making payments It’s difficult to turn around 14 years of Tory failure

#bbclaurakk on student debt "This is not a tolerable situation, is it" Phillipson "it is really difficult" "you've made it harder" "no" Phillipson later admits the govt is freezing the thresholds & they don't have any plans to help graduates but its all the Tories fault

@SaulStaniforth The tories didn't freeze the thresholds If the thresholds weren't frozen this wouldn't be an issue But labour are thieves and should stand trial for theft. @bphillipsonMP

In 2010, a starting teacher earned 87% more than the minimum wage (£21,600 vs £11,600). Now, it’s 38% more (£32,900 vs £23,000). Do we need to restore teacher pay to recruit the strongest teachers?

@torysc_mout Very true. I worked out that using my 2022 salary, I’d have paid it off in 18 years including the interest or 10 years without interest so I’ve thrown my savings at it over the past 3 years. As you say it’s depressing.

@JackThomasE4 It’s lower than min wage. I’ll probably repay mine at some point but this will probably cost me £20k instead of £10k.

@alex_schmalex99 @AJNewbury94 I don’t think it’s possible. I’ve looked over the statements since I started working full time post-uni in 2018. As I say I can’t afford more than I’m already paying. The numbers speak for themself. One might as well see how high they can go… April 2019: £59,686 Today: £92,331

@JackThomasE4 @AJNewbury94 Ouch. Is paying it off even possible? If the government want teachers to have degrees, presumably plus PGCE, they need to either pay a salary that accounts for the massive debt this will accrue or cover that debt. The same for all 'social good' roles that require degrees.

Just one of a million examples of how utterly ridiculous the student loan repayments system is. If this was happening to any other generation it would rightly be seen as a national scandal.
