More importantly, Iran is working to preserve a response equation: whatever you do to us, we will do to you — and more. This is not random retaliation. I need to write an article about how Israel's demographic success relative to other OECD countries is a function of the high percentage of Orthodox Jews within the population setting a bottom-up social norm, because none of the other explanations hold up under scrutiny.
Israeli Jews were following the demographic transition to the letter up until the 1990s, when Jewish fertility suddenly stabilized and stopped falling. Why then? None of the other explanations - nationalism, communalism, war, ethnic conflict, the Holocaust, general pronatalism, grandparental alloparenting, or some nebulous combination of these - can account for it.
But by the 1990s, following the Sephardic Haredi movement and decades of differential fertility, the Orthodox component of the population was at least 25% (probably more like 30%, including more observant "traditionals"). With an average fertility of ~4.5 children per woman, and accounting for up to half of all children in the country. That would be a very clear tipping point, and explain why fertility stabilized despite the influx of low-fertility immigrants from the former USSR.

Apple has quietly halted App Store updates for popular AI "vibe-coding" applications most notably the $9 billion startup Replit and mobile app builder Vibecode.
After months of pushback, Apple is reportedly demanding major UX changes.
Replit is being asked to force its generated app previews to open in an external web browser rather than natively inside its app.
Vibecode was told it must completely remove the ability to generate software specifically for Apple devices.
