3⃣Look what we mean when we say Point of Care. No electricity here. But you can get a chest x-ray, read by #AI & and get tested on the spot! It takes 30 mins or less to get a result 👀. This setup could be coming to communities that currently lack access to #TB diagnostics.

Data from the NTP in 🇹🇿 (eTL, 2023) shows over 60% of notified TB cases were males. But TB isn't a male-exclusive issue. Today, with support from @StopTB @UNOPS we reached women in #Iseni #Mining site to tackle #Gender norms affecting #TB care. #YesWeCanEndTB #CFCSR12 #CLM

Today is #WorldTBDay. TB kills more than 1.3 million people per year globally – more than any other infectious disease. New UK support for @StopTB #TB REACH will fund innovation to help prevent, find and treat TB, detecting 37,000 cases and saving more than 15,000 lives.

The innovations in the TB program in Nigeria in the last five years have been unprecedented, and this has led to an increase in TB notifications in the country. At the just concluded 37th Stop TB Partnership Board Meeting in Brasilia, Brazil, February 2024, we were glad to report on Nigeria’s efforts in combating tuberculosis. Notably, in 2019, the annual TB case notification increased by 15% from 120,266 TB cases (24% treatment coverage) to 138,591 TB cases in 2020, making Nigeria among the few countries that recorded an increase, in TB notification during the pandemic when the Global TB notification dropped by 18%. By 2021, we were able to record a 50% increase in annual TB notifications from 138,591 in 2020 to 207,785 TB cases in 2022 (59% treatment coverage). This impressive result is consistent with the new path we have charted to deliver an effective, efficient, equitable health system for improved quality outcomes for all Nigerians under Mr President’s @officialABAT Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative. We recognize TB as a disease of poverty which thrives on the socioeconomic exclusion of its victims; and our approach, in addition to deploying other preventative tools, integrates democratic measures to promote social welfare and community health in a holistic manner. We appreciate the support and collaboration of the Stop TB Partnership @StopTB in our fight against tuberculosis. Nigeria’s progress points to what is possible when we align resources and strongly commit to equitably addressing the common issues of social justice and social welfare for the most vulnerable demographic. It is imperative that our campaigns become more people-centered, even as we reimagine our tools and strategically align resources, within the context of the evolving Global Health architecture. It was good to see Dr. Budi Gunadi Sadikin @BudiGSadikin, Hon Minister of Health, Indonesia; Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, @DrTedros, DG, @WHO; Sir Jeremy James Farrar @JeremyFarrar, Chief Scientist, WHO; Philippe Duneton @DrDuneton Executive Director @UNITAID; and many other colleagues who have, over time, dedicated their career to the common public health good. Thank you, Seth Berkeley @DrSethBerkley, former CEO, @gavi, for your friendship and kind reassurance that we can count on your support and invaluable advice as forge ahead with our health sector renewal agenda. The remarkable energy and leadership of Lucica Ditiu @LucicaDitiu, the Executive Director, Stop TB Partnership, remain pivotal for the work at hand. Your team did an excellent job in Brasilia; and we look forward to receiving you all in Abuja in December 2024 at the 38th Stop TB Board Meeting in Nigeria. With our continuing efforts, commitment, and aligned collaboration, a world free of TB is within reach for humanity.
