@lizwathuti As much as we celebrate her acheivement, the girl needed to be well guided before embarking on unauthodox ways to seek public sympathy. Atending COPs is nolonger about numbers, but impact.

For those asking how COP accreditation works… I have just watched a video and keenly followed through some of the issues raised surrounding Truphena's missed accreditation for COP30 in Brazil. While I may not have full information or know exactly what transpired, I would love to briefly explain how COP accreditation works from my own experience and for anyone else who may be wondering as this might help even in future. First, COPs have different categories of badges. Party badges, to be specific, are issued directly by governments and recognised by the UNFCCC as official country representation, which means anything party badge holders say or do within this period are considered as country positions by the UNFCCC. Mostly, they are usually given to technical experts, and officials who support the state with negotiations and coordination across the many parallel events happening during COP and government. States are always extremely careful with how they allocate party badges because of strict UNFCCC rules on who can speak or act on behalf of a country and because of this, sometimes getting it is a little bit hard. It’s also important to note that party badge holders cannot participate in demonstrations or any form of protest while carrying the party badge. Sometimes, even actions that may be interpreted as symbolic protest, no matter how well-intended, are said to put a country or a party delegation in a difficult position with the UNFCCC. Those who have used party badges before know that there are strict rules, including that you cannot speak at COP using a party badge if you are not an approved negotiator of your country or if you haven’t consulted with the head of delegation. So maybe something like the tree-hugging marathon, which has inspired so many of us today and this entire week may have been viewed differently in that context. A party badge may not have been the right accreditation for an event of this nature at UNFCCC spaces. Many people instead use NGO or Observer badges as alternative options, which come with more freedom, and even allow demonstrations or peaceful actions within or outside the COP. I truly love what Truphena has done, and I'm super proud of her. The tree-hugging campaign has brought huge public awareness to environmental conservation and mental health, and that is powerful. Congratulations once again Muthoni for putting Nyeri and Kenya on the environmental map in such a bold and beautiful way. 🌳❤️💚

Sadly, Baba Raila’s interventions in some way contributed to his loss at the 2013 General Elections. The local politicians around the Mau Forest Complex vowed to ensure he lost the fanatical support he enjoyed from the region, and they did. He lost. linkedin.com/posts/jacob-ol…

#TuesdayThoughts with Clare Atemba "True impact begins when knowledge meets action, and action is driven by purpose." Let this be your reminder this week: Knowledge alone is not enough. Real impact comes when you put that knowledge into motion.

Just experienced the worst racial profiling at Guarulhos International Airport in Brazil for no reason other than being Black. My visa and passport were in order. But I was singled out, my passport held close to an hour while others passed through freely. @BrazilEmbassyKE
