@JosephMorris21 Yeah, I’m not saying it isn’t a problem. I think video review in every sport has gotten out of control. I’m just saying we can’t single soccer out for this issue when every sport has it.
English

@Jad02632 Hockey offsides has the same problem. It was reviewable after the Duchene goal but now is used to look at zone entries from two minutes ago frame-by-frame, and everyone hates it.
English

Soccer purists will look you dead in the eyes and say you “don’t understand the sport” for thinking this is bad
I see a bad PI call in the NFL, I bitch along with everyone else. Why do soccer fans get so defensive about their dumb penalties?
Ben Volin@BenVolin
Just a terrific rule. Ronaldo clearly cherry-picking and getting an unfair advantage
English

@HPbasketball I'm trying to think of which Knicks fan response works best here, I'm stuck between "We're getting Durant anyway it doesn't matter" and "The Nets always need to compare themselves to the big brother Knicks."
English

@Mayzomatic @HealeyPeyt36159 If an NHL player is offsides by a centimeter, we disallow the goal. If a D lineman was 1 inch into the neutral zone, it’s a flag. If even one sliver of an NBA player’s foot is on the 3 point line, it’s a 2.
Every sport has their version of “game of inches.”
English

@watchmymoves_ @ftskeebo @perry_hunter5 @Chicagoholic_ @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger Truly. It’s the most popular sport in the entire world, why do Americans think anyone cares if they like it lol
English

“Why hasn’t soccer taken off more in America?” As a casual fan, I present to you exhibit A. Balogun has been intentionally held, kicked, fouled harder than this the entire game. Then this no intent, accidental contact foul draws red. Stupid sport can’t get out of its own way.
USMNT Only@usmntonly
Another look at the red card on USMNT striker Folarin Balogun.
English

@Pmccrsp @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger Or the chiefs getting away with murder in the nfl or Wemby not getting that last flagrant in the finals. It’s bad and it sucks but it’s sports.
English

@Jad02632 @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger Except when it’s Messi apparently. I get it like Gretzky high sticking Gilmour in the playoffs and the ref missing it and immediately scoring a goal
English

@perry_hunter5 @ftskeebo @Chicagoholic_ @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger I’m not saying it’s not all dumb man, I’m with you. Ejection for the whole game and then suspension next game because of video review is nuts. Ridiculous. I’m just saying I think according to the rule book it’s the right call, that’s all.
English

@Jad02632 @ftskeebo @Chicagoholic_ @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger My point is that even when they make those calls the penalty is 2 free throws and the ball? When you’re sending someone away for the next game of the biggest tournament in the world I think it means just a bit more.also haven’t replied ab VAR and the fact they can review any play.

I would probably only have given him a yellow because I don’t think it was intentional, but a red is hardly outrageous here and, whether you think it’s right or wrong, you have to understand that most referees would probably also have given a red card after reviewing the video.
Clay Travis@ClayTravis
It’s impossible to defend this call. Impossible. Ref should be fired and investigated for corruption.
English

@perry_hunter5 @ftskeebo @Chicagoholic_ @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger And the Wemby in Brunson’s landing space. Seems pretty inconsistent.
English

@Jad02632 @ftskeebo @Chicagoholic_ @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger Yes, there were 3 flagrants called in the finals. They prolly missed the wemby push down of Brunson but again, the NBA doesn’t haven VAR. you can literally go back and review any play in soccer and they didn’t with Messi. Now we have to play rd of 16 without one of our best.
English

@Chicagoholic_ @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger We can agree to disagree, I just think that Balogun’s challenge and its result went above what a typical run of the mill tackle does and clearly caused a player safety issue so I’m not mad at the call. It sucks, but I think it fits. To each his own, though.
English

@Jad02632 @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger Sure but you can’t just be handing out red cards. You gotta let them play and if it gets out of hand that’s when the severity of the punishment goes up. I would’ve completely agreed with Balogun getting a yellow but giving him a red was egregious and only escalated things.
English

@perry_hunter5 @ftskeebo @Chicagoholic_ @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger “At least we have consistency with our flagrant fouls” brother did you not watch the NBA finals 😭😭😭
English

@Jad02632 @ftskeebo @Chicagoholic_ @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger I find that it’s much easier to rig a soccer match than any American sport. There’s so many judgement calls in soccer. The difference between us having our striker for the next game and not is an inconsistent rule. At least we have consistency with our flagrant fouls.
English
Josh retweetledi

@Helgy214 @mjeichinger We’re talking about flagrant 2s. I’m saying show me in the NBA rule book where the criteria for a flagrant 2 requires intent. Screen shot where intent is specifically mentioned in the nba rule book for flagrant 2s and I’ll cashapp you any number you choose.
English

@Jad02632 @mjeichinger For other sports? To refute the ignorant claim you made? You sure you want to make that bet?
English

@jkcohen626 @mjeichinger The NBA rule book is careful not to name intent in the criteria for flagrant 2. Just says unnecessary and excessive contact. That can happen by accident for sure.
English

@Jad02632 @mjeichinger No. I really haven’t. Half the time it’s ruled as a common foul. Often a Flagrant 1. Very rarely a Flagrant 2.
English

@Chicagoholic_ @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger Yes, agreed, there should’ve been. There should’ve been a ton more this whole tournament. It’s been wildly inconsistent in how it’s called.
English

@Jad02632 @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger Brother I played soccer from age 5 until senior year in high school I know how it works. No not every tackle endangers player safety but if you’re gonna go strictly off that then there should’ve been about 7 red cards that game.
English

@Helgy214 @mjeichinger Quote the rule book where it mentions intent. Show me the quote where it says the word intent. I’ll cashapp you 10 dollars if you do.
English

@Jad02632 @mjeichinger Intent is literally mentioned in the rules bud. Keep moving the goalposts though. You aren’t even in the same stadium anymore. It’s hilarious.
English

@gunner0040 @David3050712931 @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger Agreed, could’ve been a red too. Refs were inconsistent all game and have been all tournament, you won’t hear me saying otherwise.
In a vacuum, though, it was a challenge that created a player safety issue. In a vacuum, it’s a red.
English

@Jad02632 @David3050712931 @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger Wasn’t a tackle. Just two guys bumping into each other. I raise you Dzeko running through Tyler Adam’s and practically concussing him. Meets the exact same criteria
English

@Chicagoholic_ @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger Do you think every tackle or challenge endangers player safety? You don’t have to argue. It’s in the rule books. A lot of people new to the game and that’s okay, it takes a while to understand.
English

@Jad02632 @TheNotoriousHRT @mjeichinger So you’re basically saying every single foul should be a red card because the player could possibly get injured… if you genuinely think intent doesn’t play a part in the severity of the punishment then you’re too dumb to even argue with.
English
Josh retweetledi

Okay, I take it back.
I checked the law…
“Challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent” - direct red card
Nothing to do with intent, it is the correct call.
Jenny Chiu@jennyachiu
NOT A RED !!!!! 🟥
