If you were to be creating a mapping platform. Augmenting satellite images with 3D images from 20-foot-apart stereo cameras on Earth could help create more accurate cityscape models by aligning ground-based depth data with the satellite’s perspective. The wide baseline on the ground would capture exaggerated depth for large urban features like buildings, which could better match the broad, top-down view of a single satellite camera, improving 3D reconstruction of city structures. By correlating ground-based hyperstereo data with satellite imagery, you could refine the depth and scale of urban models, especially for taller buildings or complex layouts. The challenge is calibrating the datasets to avoid perspective mismatches and ensuring the ground cameras’ field of view aligns with the satellite’s. It’s a solid approach if you can handle the data fusion and processing demands.

While Tesla markets FSD as vision-based and “map-free,” the Austin robotaxi launch does in fact depend on a pre-mapped, geofenced operating domain that the vehicles are not allowed to leave in driverless mode.

$TSLA Robotaxis need pre-mapping despite what Biased Influencers told us for years. Tesla is simply copying the Waymo playbook, and that’s why Tesla is many years behind Waymo, and will stay that way.
