Many years passed before my children asked why they only had one set of grandparents. In the end, it never mattered.

@CherylB2121 @MattTestifies Sniping at people for an image is a bit like judging people who violate the Word of Wisdom. I don’t know what promises anyone else has made or the nature of their faith. Given my long list of shortcomings leaves me little time to condemn the behaviors of others.

@WilliamMeservy @MattTestifies I’m not sure if it’s wise to condemn a political movement as though it’s monolithic in thought. My sons run the gamut of political thought but I know each man carries the light of Christ with him. They brighten their surroundings and help guide the fellow travelers to hope.

I built CourtWatch.us — a free public database for American citizens who deserve safer communities. You can track which judges released defendants who then got rearrested, skipped court, or violated their release conditions. All public records. All free. I started with Orange County FL and will be expanding to all 67 Florida counties and eventually every state in the country. This first batch of info is from 2024 and since public reports are released in March/April for the previous year, data is behind. But I wanted to see if this is plausible. After adding 2024,I'll add 2025 and then figure out how to get real-time-data uploaded. When my son was born with a heart defect I was in school and my job paid almost $5/hr. After he was stable, a hospital clerk took us into a little room with pamphlets on finances. He asked us how we planned to pay for open-heart surgery. We had no time to think about it but truthfully we wouldn’t have wasted that precious time on such mundane matters. You see, we’re not ghouls. The clerk said the bills would bankrupt us so it was vital to come to terms with that fact so we could focus on our boy. I’d never heard of anyone like you so I didn’t know there were fathers who used a calculator for life and death decisions. Apparently you aren’t the first. The clerk’s advice was understandable but needless. We believed the doctors would do what they could, and accepted that we’d be ruined - we didn’t care. You see, from the moment you bring those little ones into the world it’s about their lives - not yours. We put our faith in God. My son is 32 and I don’t imagine he nor any of his brothers think I am a model father. Nevertheless they still let me be part of their lives. Young man, I don’t think your approach will get you where you want to go. I recommend a good long think - and a prayer.

The replies are loud on this one (and though none of them are genuinely concerned about my son, he's doing just fine). Over 2/3rds of Americans have these same anxieties over health care costs, and half couldn't pay for a $500 unexpected medical bill out of pocket. The problem isn't me saying it out loud. The problem is we've accepted it.

@stephenvbird @Tanyaelisabeth You wait that long to start teaching boys to be men and you’ve forfeited much of the ground. Mom and Dad raise the oldest, Mom, Dad, and the oldest raise the next and so on. The sooner you begin instilling core principles the easier the complex ones will be.

@Tanyaelisabeth You are taking on too much yourself. A boy's mom will teach him socialization, compassion, importance of family, etc. but it is his father's job to teach him how to be a good man. Most cultures turn boy raising over to dads at pre-teen. Pick you husband well!

I do not want to raise tamed boys. I want to raise moral boys. There is a difference. To mother boys is to be one of the first voices that tells them what their strength is for, and so I must learn. Every mother of sons faces a difficult decision: Do I shape them to fit the world as it is, or do I raise them to reshape the world as it ought to be? There is a wildness in boys that is not a flaw of creation but a part of it. A gift given by God Himself. A desire to run, to chase, to build, to break, to defend, to explore the unknown and come home covered in dust as if they had conquered the world. If we kill their spirits for the sake of convenience, for quiet classrooms and tidy living rooms, we may win temporary peace, but the cost is at the expense of a future man. And this truth is prevalent all around us.

@Tanyaelisabeth Today my kid learned. He told me today that a boy hit him. (2nd grade.) I told him to hit back. With tears in his eyes he said "thats not me!" I made it clear to only hit back if someone strikes you first. Probably the wrong age to teach that... idk. Multiple talks will happen.
