I work for a brokerage firm that is owned by a bank. I went into the bank to deposit a $1200 check I had gotten from an insurance refund and to withdraw $1000 to take on vacation. The teller pulls up my account and takes my check and deposit slip. As she is doing that I am telling her I also need $1000 in cash. She stops and tells me, there is a ten-day hold on the funds, the most she can give me is $200. I politely ask to check my beginning balance which was around $9000. She tells me that doesn't matter, there is a hold on the check. We start to argue about this, right in front of her manager who was doing nothing. I am explaining there is no hold on the cash in the account. She disagrees. I tell her to void the check deposit and give me the check back. She is more than happy to and kinda halfway throws it at me. She turns to walk away, I said whoa, here is my debit card and withdrawal slip, I want to take out $1000. She turned bright red and glared at me like she was trying to make me burst into flames. She counts out the cash, turns and starts to walk off in a huff. I said, whoa, I've got a check I need to deposit. She screamed at me that she didnt have to put up with this and marched off. In the mean time the manager went in her office and shut the door. I waited and waited, finally the teller came back. I told her I'm not leaving until you deposit this check. She said anything to get you out of here. So I asked, why did you choose the hard way? I got the big F You on that one, but I got my business done.

This old lady handed her bank card to the teller and said "I would like to withdraw $10". The teller told her "For withdrawals less than $100, Please use the ATM." The old lady wanted to know why... The teller returned her bank card and irritably told her "These are the rules, please leave if there is no further matter. There is a line of customers behind you." The old lady remained silent for a few seconds and handed her card back to the teller and said "Please help me withdraw all the money I have." The teller was astonished when she checked the account balance. She nodded her head, leaned down and respectfully told her "You have $300,000 in your account but the bank doesn't have that much cash currently. Could you make an appointment and come back again tomorrow.?" The old lady then asked how much she could withdraw immediately. The teller told her any amount up to $3000. "Well please let me have $3000 now." The teller kindly handed $3000 very friendly and with a smile to her. The old lady put $10 in her purse and asked the teller to deposit $2990 back into her account. The moral of this story is, Don't be difficult with old people, they spent a lifetime learning the skill.!!

This is obviously a psychotic power grab. It is almost surely illegal, but the message it sends is that the United States Government is a completely unreliable partner for any kind of business. The damage done to our business environment is profound. No amount of deregulatory vibes sent by this administration matters compared to this arson.
