Crazy patchwork quilt I made at the end of last year. Given that, in addition to handsewing all the pieces, it is covered with embroidery, I'd expected it to take me months – but I stitched like a demon and completed it in seven weeks!

Hedgehog Cabin
Hedgehog Cabin@HedgehogCabin·
Every phone call I've taken this week has broken my heart a little bit more. So much unnecessary suffering. Please spread this information, as far and wide as you can. You may save a life. 🙏 A hedgehog *out in the open* in the day is in serious trouble and needs urgent help. Always. No exceptions. Any size. Any time. Hedgehogs are nocturnal prey animals, they have no defences in the daytime, it's deadly dangerous for them. They are designed to hunt at night, to navigate and catch insects in the dark, occupying a specific ecological niche. They are not adapted to withstand high temperatures, and their shape means they rapidly dehydrate during daylight hours. They are nocturnal animals. So they don't come out in the day simply because they're hungry, or lost, or disturbed, or to move nests, or are pregnant, or for any other trivial reason. They come out in the day because it's warmer than the night and they are feeling cold. Deadly cold. They're feeling cold because they're so sick they're starting to die, and hypothermia is a stage of dying. Blood has been redirected to the vital organs, keeping them alive as long as possible, leaving the limbs feeling cold. If you see a hedgehog like this, out in the open, in the day time, no matter how 'well' he looks, it is an emergency. Every minute counts. DO NOT put them in a box and keep them, feeding them, not calling a rescue for advice for 3 days until their agony and infection is too much for them to bear and they stop moving. DO NOT feed them then move them under a bush because you think they shouldn't be in the sun, leaving them, utterly defenceless, to be predated alive there. DO NOT take them to a vet, none of whom are trained in wildlife and will simply put to sleep even viable wild animals. Please take them to a rescue (never a vet) URGENTLY. Just Google 'hedgehog rescue near me' to find a list. More info: x.com/HedgehogCabin/…

Every year on 9 March at 8:39 AM precisely, the sun briefly kisses Rembrandt's Saskia's gravestone in the Oude Kerk. She no longer rests there. In 1662 Rembrandt needed money to bury Hendrickje who had died from the plague. He sold Saskia's grave and the contents was cleared ...

South Western Water guilty of supplying parasite laden water, unfit for human consumption. 150 affected. Those same victims now face a 30%+ bill hike for that privilege. Fortunately for SW Water it didn’t affect the £2.8bn in profit made from us all last year. Phew.

Thames Water is on the brink of collapse. As part of the deal they have put forward, Thames Water's creditors are asking to pollute illegally until 2040. This government cannot let this deal go ahead. We're in High Wycombe today to tell Environment Minister Emma Reynolds that she must reject this proposal. Show your support - write to Ofwat demanding they say NO to Thames Water vist.ly/4tpbd

"South East Water fined £22m for repeated supply failures." Let's be clear about this, as has been proven time and time again, fining these companies is nothing but a charade. These fines rarely if ever get paid, shareholders rarely if ever take money out of their pockets to pay them and invariably WCs negotiate some sort of deal so that ultimately it doesn't cost them a penny. Ofwat need to start revoking operating licences and govt need to order them to start that process today. news.sky.com/story/south-ea…

What makes this painting so special? 🤔 At a time when very few women worked as artists, Catharina van Hemessen painted with confidence and skill, proudly signing her name on nearly all her works. In fact, she is the earliest known European woman painter whose works can be identified without doubt. She was just 23 years old when she created this small, intricate 'Portrait of a Woman' in 1551. In the lead up to #InternationalWomensDay, we sat down with curator Dr Christine Seidel to find out more about this remarkable artist. Read the full article here: bit.ly/4cq5Ere

I watched @Channel4 Dirty Business yesterday. Please watch, its clear ministers, the @EnvAgency and Water companies have been complicit in organised crimes, that have led to the deaths of people and our aquatic life. Rivers are dying. Water needs to be in public hands now.

It’s interesting that the Environment Agency are apparently interested in ‘nature recovery’, as on my river they are threatening to prosecute me for building a pond without a permit, whilst not prosecuting a single one of the serious illegal sewage spills that have been going on for decades. It’s all about priorities I guess?

50 land managers. 3,000 hectares. £100 million for nature recovery. 🌱 We're proud to have worked closely with project partners on the development the Evenlode Landscape Recovery project and are excited to see it move into the implementation phase with @naturalengland.

You're right. Govt are about to hand £11,000,000 over to environment charities. If those charities knew what they were doing they would use the money to fund legal actions against every single water company in the country but they won't they use it for so called "river restorations".
