@musicmakessense Interesting. Makes me yearn for the 140 character limit... I haven't heard of Rumble, but I do not consider X a "free and functional space." You paid for your experience on X AEB, the blue check, right? The far-right sources you repost are not known for fact-checking.

Why @musicmakessense This is a great question, and I appreciate the prompt to provide an answer. This is my only Twitter handle – originally created as a companion to my website Music Makes Sense. My website grew out of a desire to post information related to music therapy and ideas for practitioners or people on interdisciplinary teams using music strategies in their work. But I also discussed research and wider sociopolitical issues that impact music therapy as a profession and its clinical practice. So, my Twitter/X space is a mishmash of all the things – music therapy, research, personal, professional, geopolitical, etc. For a while I drastically decreased my activity on X as a protest against the rampant censorship that existed on the platform before Musk took it over. Looking back, this was entirely intellectually consistent with my blog. Beginning with the issue of Obamacare I often discussed the pros and cons of more centralized and government run healthcare as it related to music therapy services and our profession. Then COVID naturally had a huge impact on music therapy services. But there were genuine and honest questions about how the vaccine mandates, social distancing rules and mask requirements were handled. These political policies destroyed music therapy businesses and drove many people out of the field. But the main problem was that we were not allowed to fully discuss the issues. The censorship of speech on social platforms in coordination with government agencies and verbalized intent by certain political actors needed to be addressed. My own research and professional opportunities were greatly harmed during COVID by the mandates, lockdowns and weight of societal behavior and herding. Our music therapy professional organization went bankrupt and collapsed. I think all of these are fair game for discussion under my handle @musicmakessense. Once Twitter/X was freed from the thought police we found out how much research had been suppressed as well as research that had been done very poorly as it related to things like the COVID vaccine, the efficacy of masks and social distancing, etc. As a researcher in an allied health profession, it is imperative to rely on the transparency and quality of peer-reviewed research methods and the publishers. As a profession we rely on evidence-based practice and objective guidance from government health agencies like the CDC. In fact, public policy is rooted in research outcomes. During elections these issues naturally come to the forefront where I feel that it is my responsibility as someone with some experience as a researcher to post, re-post and comment on news, comments, events, etc. that relate to free speech, censorship, fact-checking, etc. These are foundational to all of us being able to honestly discuss how music can be beneficial to health and well-being. Without an honest public square and trust in our organizations we are doomed to failure. Our elected representatives will have great power over the staffing of agencies like the CDC, DOJ, FDA, CISA, etc., which in turn control us, our profession, our livelihoods in more ways than I would like to think about. I hope for the day when all I need to talk about is the newest music therapy research and draw attention to the benefits of using music! But we have definitely been in a fight for freedom the last few years. Currently only X and Rumble are the most free and functional spaces for honest discussion and exploration of facts. Obviously, lots of people do not see things the way I do, and I don’t have a problem with that. I just ask for the discussion to happen. We have more work ahead of us.

It's ok. I asked chat gpt and it said it is likely that I am because AI systems don't generally question their own humanity and suggested I seek professional help.
