@dajmeyer @cs_kaplan @joshuagrochow And then delving a little deeper, I see that that one doesn't count because although it can tile the plane aperiodically, it doesn't have to. This stuff is an easy out of my league, but it's fascinating!

@dajmeyer @cs_kaplan @joshuagrochow Glancing at the paper, on page 11 there is a figure and description of a "continuum of shapes that all tile the plane the same way". At least one of which is symmetrical, so doesn't need mirroring

@StumpyNubs Since the down spout is smaller than the gutter, that should work. The bottleneck is the down spout. If they were the same size, then there wouldn't be any point increasing the capacity downwards since the bottleneck would be the gutter itself
