Tesla's Spring software update has officially been unveiled. Here's what's new: • New Self-Driving App: Lets you subscribe with a single tap & learn about how to activate and use the feature. You can also view ongoing stats. AI4 hardware cars only. • Blind Spot Warning Accent Lights: Accent lights now turn red when an object is in your blind spot and your turn signal is engaged, or when an approaching object is detected while parked. • Launch Grok by saying "Hey Grok." You can also set location-based reminders, like "remind me to pick up milk when I'm near home." Say “goodbye” to dismiss Grok. • Pet Mode: Choose from dog, cat or hedgehog to display when Pet Mode is active. Also optionally customize the screen with your pet's name by going to Controls > Display > Customize Pet Mode • Car Visualization (New Model 3 & Y): A new park scene environment & higher quality car visualization. • More Trips: Create multiple trips to track energy stats across drives. Quickly access your trip’s consumption by swiping left on the media player. • Sketchpad: Now supports stickers & emojis. You can also save your sketches to access them in the Mobile App & share. • Model S & X owners can now personalize their Tesla avatar with window tints, custom wraps & license plates. • Immersive Sound (New Model 3 & Y w/ premium audio): Premium Immersive Sound uses advanced sound extraction to place the listener in front of a detailed soundstage within an Immersive space. This enhancement works with all streaming sources. • Your Tesla can now automatically install downloaded software updates overnight. When enabled, updates will install while your Tesla is parked and not in use. • Weather maps now show snow and rain with improved colors that make it easier to distinguish between precipitation types. You can also view the past hour of weather data to see how conditions have been changing along your route. • Recent Dashcam footage can now extend up to 24 hours & you can save any clip for permanent storage on your Tesla Other Improvements • Swipe right on tracks in Apple Music or Spotify to add them to the queue. • Passengers in rear seats can now view and interact with maps on the rear display while your Tesla navigates a route

@DennisCW_ Rivian will not drive on the roads as well as a Model Y. Model Y handles more like a sedan. R2 will handle like a box.

@Sublux8tor @future_yas Except that’s just not the case here. Model Y has power reclining seats in the 2nd row and both have equal leg and headroom in the 2nd row.

@JasonFranciosa @future_yas Bad logic. In a square back vehicle you can push the rear seats back further due to more head room, can’t do that in a swept back vehicle.

Rivian R2 AWD so 3.73 mi/kWh or 268wh/mi 3.92 for RWD or 255wh/mi Thing is efficient. Rivian has efficient motors. Tesla isn’t god so don’t worry understanding why the Model at isn’t really that efficient given the egg trade offs.

Interesting that for the 2025 model S/X cars, Tesla cut costs on the car computer considerably. The dedicated GPU is gone (good thing all the crazy gaming stuff is gone from the website too). The RAM still remains at 16G though unlike the current crop of 3/y/ct, the NVMe is dropped to 128G (from 256)

@pbeisel It’s about sales. Almost every review of the car complains no Apple CarPlay. Customers who have never used a Tesla think they want it and won’t buy a car without it. Tesla adding it takes that objection away.

@KevinMelnuk @OutofSpecDetail The 2026 Model Y Performance has a brand new battery cell which is software limited on charging at the moment. That's a silly comparison.

Thanks for eating your slice of humble pie. Welcome to the business of Rivian. Everyone who has criticized them for not making money…well here we are. It’ll charge better than a 2026 Model Yw which charges worse than a 2021 Model Y. I’m more outraged in Tesla right now for not innovating. R2 will charge far better than Model Y and that means it’s good enough for the hundreds of thousands of people R2 will sell to vs the 1.3 million that buy Model Y. It makes sense and makes dollars. $RIVN $TSLA

I’m so conflicted with my feelings on R2’s stated charging performance. 240kW max and 10-80% in 30 minutes… -It feels very underwhelming knowing the Model 3/Y has had the same charging performance for YEARS. It feels like a shame to launch an EV in 2026 built from the ground up and not make charging a priority. Heck i’d be happy if it matched the charging performance of my 84kWh EV6 10-80% in 21min. -On the other hand I do appreciate most folks don’t use DCFC every single day, and likely wouldn’t pay more for a better charging vehicle. -This feels like an easy cop out to “cut costs” when China is producing cars at a fraction of the cost blowing every single car we have here out of the water when it comes to charging. I’m a nerd, I want to see innovation, I want to see companies pushing the bleeding edge of innovation. At the end of the day, none of this will matter, 95%, heck probably 99% of customers will find the R2 charging performance perfectly acceptable. So I’m wrong 🤷‍♂️

Isaiah’s Rivian Updates@RivianUpdates·
Based on what we know so far, Rivian does not appear to be positioning R2 as a leader in range, charging speed, or efficiency. From what Rivian has shared, expectations are: - 300+ miles of range - ~3 mi/kWh - ~30 minutes for 10–80% DCFC (~200 kW peak) On the higher end of the segment, vehicles like the Mercedes CLA, Volvo EX60, and BMW iX3 are expected to offer stronger efficiency, charging performance, and range but slightly higher price points. R2’s position appears centered on utility and size, design, software, and future autonomy, alongside Rivian’s broader ecosystem. The strategy seems focused on competing directly with the Model Y, which is not a class leader in range, charging, or efficiency, but succeeds largely due to its software and ecosystem.

@teslascope @komocode @SawyerMerritt Wired but as someone who just got a new MYP in December, and given that the FSD computer is one of the most critical parts of the car, I’m glad I have the latest version, even if the change is minor.

Yes, but customers should not concern themselves with minor changes to components, otherwise you’re keeping track of dozens of minor changes throughout a single calendar year to the exact model and trim. If a change does not result in any user-facing changes, it’s not necessary to upgrade/replace and will always be out of pocket. This sentiment results in excessive service volume which impacts customers with critical or time sensitive concerns.

Tesla has updated its public parts catalog by removing any mention of HW4.5, and now only lists HW4, since the company says all vehicles delivered today come with HW4. Source: epc.tesla.com/en-US/catalogs…

@teslascope @komocode @SawyerMerritt Changes are made to improve, you’re better off having the latest version. Could be something that improved reliability or could be additional RAM or SOC. None of those would require part changed outside of the computer. We are all speculating until someone opens it up.

We know it's nothing significant because no other external parts were changed. So we can work with that fact alone to acknowledge that it's not a change relating to performance in any capacity. "4.1" changed a single capacitor to prevent premature failures due to a software install. Even that was not major enough to call for a revision number as external components didn’t need to also be refreshed for compatibility. There’s less we don’t know then what can be inferred from what we do know.

@teslascope @komocode @SawyerMerritt Again, something has changed. We don’t know what it was. Someone thought it was enough to call it 4.5 and Tesla has had to scale that back, but new part number means a change. Could be completely insignificant or might be more than they are letting on.

@JasonFranciosa @komocode @SawyerMerritt Because the part changed. As it did in December 2024. If a single capacitor changes, it gets a new part number. Minor changes do not get revision numbers, thus still HW4.0. Reread the post you're replying to. 👍

Important additional context: HW3.2 is officially labeled as such within the EPC because the changes were significant enough (i.e, upgraded Ethernet) to require additional upgraded/changed components. HW4 has never received major changes, thus no minor revision number. This isn't something they can simply "hide", so conspiracy theories need not apply here. It's crucial that service centers and third-party repair can correctly rebuild vehicles, so this is further proof that nothing significant changed in the current HW4 computer.

NEWS: Tesla has started informing customers (through sales advisors) that there was a mislabeling of "AP45", meaning there is currently no HW4.5. All vehicles delivered today have AI4 (HW4). Tesla will update all labels, etc, to eliminate any confusion moving forward. Everyone can stop freaking out lol.
