@uwukko I love seeing people in these comments who know nothing about computers cope about how single core performance doesn’t matter (Big AMD bulldozer energy)

@ArmedJ0y I always meet people inside a police station when selling phones or other electronics on marketplace. Can’t carry there in Illinois but it scares away the criminals before ever even talking price.

@MKBHD This Mac actually does have a use case for power users. I’m going to probably pick one up to do basic tasks on the machine, and when I need to do real work I’m going to SSH into my beefy Linux box at home.

I was wrong, and boy, am I glad! MacBook Neo starts at $599 (as I had predicted in my video a couple weeks ago, only to un-convince myself lol). This thing is gonna sell like hotcakes.
Quinn Nelson@SnazzyLabs

The MacBook Air going back to $1099 shifts the pricing ladder. I think two bad things will happen: (1) the MacBook Air will no longer be the “budget king” and won’t keep seeing sales in the $700s (2) the new MacBook “Neo” will not be as cheap as hoped for. My guess? $799.

@MKBHD At that price, would you get the Neo over an iPad for basic computer things? That’s close to a base iPad + Keyboard cover, right?

@MorosKostas Hawaii & the various U.S. territories are the only places left with a total non-resident carry ban. Illinois, Colorado, & Oregon are the only states left with partial non-resident CCW bans.

Ya, this is one of the areas where even with Bruen defiance, we have been crushing it. Nonresident carry bans will soon be history. Long term though, we need reciprocity. Needing to get a nonresident permit often isn't practical for many use cases. (E.g., a vacation or impromptu road trip) Still, proud to have struck the very first successful blow on this issue with our PI in CRPA v. LASD. Its terms were essentially written into state law with AB 1078.

@MorosKostas Both restrictive voter ID laws and restrictive carry permit laws are bad. They both restrict the poor (and busy working folks who can’t take a weekday off) from exercising their rights through bogus taxes and crazy time commitments.

@gummysalamander There’s like 2 or 3 buses that stop directly in front of Encore (with direct connections to Sullivan Square) Source: Was on one of those buses a few weeks ago.

@north0fnorth Found that out the hard way when I found myself driving to many places rather than taking transit when I moved out here. Boston has a much smaller system but I found myself much more inclined to ride the T when I lived there than the L now.

after spending almost three weeks out in nyc, i really can’t stop seeing all the little ways chicago is more of a car city. like we have all these ugly suburban-style strip malls in the middle of chicago—even in our densest neighborhoods—and we all just kinda endure them

It’s been a long time since posting here, hasn’t it? While I still really don’t like where this website has gone, it fulfills a different purpose to bluesky, and as a result I still come here. At least now I can reply to people but I’ll probably refrain from posting much.

@Colin_d_m I un-privated my account and am breaking my “no post on hellsite” rule for this, but if you need somebody to test on Linux, I have two Fedora boxes (a Fedora 42 laptop and a Nobara desktop) and a Steam Deck :3

I'll be distributing an invite-only beta this week to a very small number of people (~20 max). If that goes well, I'll set a launch date in the next few days! :)

@SnickersSkunk I still fit in going out to restaurants, shitty food like Five Guys, and snacks into my day, and I’ve lost over 15lbs and gained muscle (gym 3x a week). Though this experiment, I also realized the American diet combined with the lack of exercise is so bad for our health lol.

@SnickersSkunk I subscribe to calorie counting rather than sticking to a specific diet. You can’t beat math, if Calories in < Calories out, you lose weight. My tracker, Lose It!, also gives you macros so over time I’ve shifted eating habits to make sure I get enough Protein.

Let's talk diet. I don't. Or rather, I eat according to the life I want to have. Short term diets focused on quick results (1-6 months) often leave people feeling exhausted, defeated, hating eating healthy and even malnourished. Eating at home doesn't have to suck

@questionableway Part of it is civic pride. Chicagoans rabidly love their city, and are less inclined to fuck it up IMO. The one exception is the L, that shit gets nasty.
