@BigSwingTempo I think a persimmon rolled back ball circuit leading up to one rolled back major would be cool. And then you could leave everything else the same Provide ratings/ slopes adjustment for ams who want to play rolled back equipment.

To the people who want to roll the ball back or limit club design: Do you also want to eliminate the 3 point line? Make the field goal more narrow? Increase the distance between the batter’s box and pitching mound? Where does this end?

@BigSwingTempo I would absolutely remove the 3 pt. I don't necessarily think equipment has to be rolled back in pro golf but I think watching wedge approach shots all day is boring AF. Most courses can't be lengthened enough to have more 175-225 approaches.

@TwittaUser22 @Mattatthebank @Top100Rick There's not much strategy on less than 450yd holes for most courses. Thats what Rory and Scottie are basically bemoaning. We have less a chance to win here because there's less chance for our superior ball striking to separate from the field Whether good or bad is up to you

@Mattatthebank @Top100Rick You should start a new sport that awards bonus points for fairways. Golf has pretty simple rules. If you don’t think there’s strategy because the ball goes farther than ever, that’s on you.

“Bomb and gouge works best” “The reward for hitting the fairway is not that great”. Scottie’s thoughts on the PGA setup are honest but not exciting to hear. Deep rough lined fairways promote distance, not accuracy. This is counter intuitive to most.

@TwittaUser22 @Top100Rick It's more about getting appropriate approach length to delineate elite players. Wedges/ short irons into most greens is IMO boring and worse at separating top players compared to 175-225 yds

@AutinoD @Top100Rick Only way to do it is without length is strategic angulation Where the aggressive line gets a wedge/ short iron in And the conservative line gets mid to long iron. Ideally each has the same SG up and down side As rick says, merely growing out the rough favors bombers

@Top100Rick Facts don’t lie. So what is a better setup then? Short rough up to say 280 carry? A well placed tree at 330? They take trees out now. Pin placements that only a fairway lie has a chance to hold a green. I guess all of the above.

@matthew_j_focht @skotskipole Ah that changes things a little bit. At city park in Nola, we lost 18 quality muni holes for the sake of one "championship" course While I love the course, it takes up too much space and takes too long to walk because distance between holes is meant for galleries

Because it’s super cramped with 36 crappy holes as opposed to 18 good ones. It’s just not a good place to play. Basically pitch and putt level. Trump did municipal golf with Ferry Point and probably would still be running it if NYC hadn’t kicked him out such that he had to sell it to Bally’s at a loss.

I hate this. I hate that they are taking a perfectly fine muni that is over a century old and gold plating it so the everyday person can’t play golf. Passionately, I despise this to my core. I grew up playing a rock-filled, 9-hole muni that used to be the old Jewish country club in Little Rock. It was $5 and play all day… don’t forget to stop in the clubhouse for an RC Cola at some point. I learned by lacing drives down fairways and accepting when the ball shot 90° into the woods. That was just how Rock Creek GC was. We’re leaving the “least” of us behind, and that’s everything I’m against.
GOLF.com@GOLF_com

Big changes are coming to East Potomac Golf Links, a Washington, D.C., muni that is more than 100 years old. On Friday, the Trump administration announced it will move forward with plans to convert the beloved property — which houses 36 holes — into a championship-style, 18-hole facility capable of hosting majors and the Ryder Cup. Some locals and preservationists, though, worry that the administration’s vision will rob the property of its populist appeal, along with other activities it offers such as walking trails, picnicking and fishing. Lorenza “Country” Robinson has been working at East Potomac for 16 years. When he started there, he cleaned carts and took out the trash; now he’s the operations manager. “You might have nothing in your pocket — that don’t matter here,” Country says. “It’s all about enjoying your experience, and we’re going to make sure you enjoy your experience.”

@skotskipole On the other hand, I played this course regularly in my 20’s. It was meh minus then and worse now. It needed a major glow up regardless. Who better to do it than the president who literally runs golf courses as a profession?

@skotskipole Terrible. This is what happened at City Park in New Orleans. They did get the LIV event ( if it ever happens ) but at the cost of losing 18 holes and a course that takes excessively long to walk due to wasted space for tournaments.

@CoachMarcusHill Yup. True competition is when it's rare, the stakes are high, and there's a decent chance this is your only shot. Pay to play will always be a diminished level of competition.

Still the most misdiagnosed equipment setup that I see — The baseball/hockey/other athlete turned emerging golfer. Plenty of club speed, but prescribed game improvement irons simply because: 1. They’re a beginner 2. They’re a high hcp 3. The irons were the cheapest

@SprengelMatt @engineeringolf Mark Crossfield has a very robust test of this on his channel. It's not just flyer lies. Anything hit above the VCOG with a GI design is liable to behave like a flyer. Which means if you have any ability to deloft an iron with clubhead speed it's liable to happen.

@engineeringolf Myth imo. Robots doing dispersion testing on mishits should dispell these myths. The data is out there. These people are just getting flyer lies in the rough and not accounting for it, then blaming the club. Grass behind your ball removes backspin. +15 yards carry easy on 8i+

If your well struck iron shots routinely miss long, let’s talk about moving on from GI irons. Some great examples in the thread here.
Austin@TooTallGolfer

@engineeringolf This was exactly me. Game improvement irons would cause the ball to either balloon or come off the face so hot I’d carry 20-30 yards past my “stock” distance. Was hitting 8i north of 200 on some of those. Players iron now which punishes mishits, but my distances are stable

@MMGOLFSTUDIOS The best combo would be if you have a really good putter who's going to make more putts with a good read and the first putter is good enough to putt at the correct speed for the read to be useable

@MMGOLFSTUDIOS If they're both pretty good players, it's probably better for the "die" putter to go first rather than a "charger" ( Nicklaus's terminology) rather than who's "better" If they both putt with similar speed, "better" goes second

@SHistorians @PGAChampionship The PGA has arguably been better at selecting the best players in recent years than either Open and on par with the Masters in that regard

The @PGAChampionship doesn’t deserve the disrespect that it gets. Is it’s the 4th best major? 100% yes, but look what it is going against: • The Masters with an unlimited budget and one course that it needs to be perfect for 2 weeks of the year. Oh and it’s membership is all in on the Masters- which is its #1 advantage. • The US Open which has one of the two governing body of golf located in the U.S. backing it. It also gets its pick of venues and now locks them in for 50 years. Not to mention it’s the second oldest major and the national championship of the USA. • The Open our oldest major played on stunning linksland. It breathes tradition and inspires golf around the world. The Open crowns the Champion Golfer of the Year. So the PGA Championship is the 4th best major - something has to be. But people bag on it like it’s bad. Look at the last 8 years- the PGA has 100% delivered great champions and some amazing battles! Don’t let the rhetoric get in the way- the PGA Championship deserves more respect than the arm chair complainers give it credit for. It’s popular to bash on it- I get it but this Major almost always delivers!!!

@JaysonLavie @MMGOLFSTUDIOS The reason pro golf is boring is because courses are set up for maximum non tournament earnings when amateurs play them the other 11 months out of the year. They probably need a certain number of courses just for pro golf play. Setup with better viewing areas parking etc.

@JaysonLavie @MMGOLFSTUDIOS 13 at Augusta is probably one of the more boring holes to watch in golf anymore. The vast majority of players layup, flip wedge to the green and are happy to walk away with a two putt. There are 5 more holes that they are more than happy to take their chances on.
