@gingerref87 @JimGerbil @RFU No they are just going to be chopping head first into shins, knees and Elbows as that is the only option to not get a card. Especially when the carrier drops lower into contact...

Momentum building towards an SGM, @ccusport hoping to get sign-off today. They’ve gathered the support of 246 clubs (as of about 8am) within three days. telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/20…

@rob_james_s @keaganvanzyl @mauloverpodcast @notnaasbotha @timoconnorbl @Nabasboer @chrisjonespress @WorldRugby I like the quotation marks around scientist, that’s a significant blow you’ve struck against science, and against me. I think you’ll find that lowering tackle height is not “data”, but it is part of the solution. Calibrating the reduction, that’s one for data to help with.

Trials on compulsory waist down tackles is crazy. Ball carriers being protected but who is looking after the tackler? There will be so many neck and head injuries during this. Abandon. #rugbytrials #rugbylaws #playersafety #rugby @WorldRugby

My two pennies’ on the RFU changing the tackle height for the grassroots game in my @RugbyPass column. So far there’s a lot of disagreement and disharmony and I tend to agree with those not happy! Have a read 👇🏼

@Scienceofsport The reaction in England hasn't been mixed, its been categorically negative. It is not wanted and will destroy the game

Legal tackle height is being lowered to the waist in Eng. A decision 6 years in the making, & justified by evidence of risk, but criticized as unnecessary & unevidenced. I wrote this to explain how we got here, & to commend France for leading the way: patreon.com/posts/lowering…

So here is the data and explanation from the RFU and Dr Simon Kemp. Theoretically he(they) have sound rationale but practically it is absurd IMHO. Just looking at this guy I know he’s never put his head where it hurts! Trust me it’s gonna hurt.

@MattyHenno It's increasing the risk to the defender. Defenders will now adopt 'chop' tackle techniques where more likely to get injured through head contact with knees, shins, hips, elbows. It's the wrong decision and needs to be reversed. This is one of a number of issues with it

You can be passionately for player welfare and be vehemently against this simplistic approach. The debate and approach around this needs to improve. IMO, could argue that this could actually increase head injuries + kill off participation levels (that are already drastically low)
Rugby Football Union@RFU
🏉To support player welfare, RFU Council agreed on Monday 16th January to lower the height of the tackle across the community game (Age Grade & Adult) from 1st July 2023 Find out more about the law change, including rationale, next steps & training support to be provided⬇️
