In the course of noting “a tribute to Graham’s pragmatic idealism,” @EliLake pens just that. Senator Graham always had three priorities —the national security of the United States, its Constitution and the GOP. He understood how those three worked together thefp.com/p/lindsey-grah…

Lindsey had a series of repeatable riffs. My fav—> On my weekly commute from Nebr to DC, I often had one of my kids in tow. My youngest grew from age 3 to 12 over my tenure. Whenever LG would approach me at Judic or ArmedServices, he’d first pretend not to notice Breck, and just dive into his topic. But then, one sentence in, he’d interrupt himself & turn to fist-bump my kid with: “Oh hey dude. Sorry about your social security. You’re screwed!”
Ben Sasse@BenSasse

On the subway to the vote, Lindsey literally struck up the conversation with "Hey Fellas. I love your hats."

Brad, thank you for your work on creating the Trump accounts. Implemented with fidelity, these accounts will be transformative for the next generation. I have contributed to my grandchildren’s accounts and am looking for ways to help many others.

I think Lindsey is enjoying from up above the accolades he is receiving from across the political spectrum. He was a guy who focused on getting stuff done. He did it with grace and good humor. RIP, my friend.

Your beginning doesn’t have to define your ending. I’m running for governor so that every Georgian who dreams big and works hard can achieve their own version of the American Dream.

American education has spent decades pursuing skills without knowledge, literacy without content, diversity without commonality, and citizenship without grateful inheritance. Texas is attempting something different. My new piece: fordhaminstitute.org/national/comme…

We are building a movement of Georgians, from all walks of life and every part of our state, who are done being ignored by the special interests, insiders, and politicians who promise the world but never deliver. We’re going to win in November and we’re going to WIN BIG for all of Georgia.

Iran is incorrigible. They wanted a quiet week in memory of their dead dictator. We acquiesced, so they start shooting at ships again. wsj.com/world/middle-e…

Thierry Henry on Lionel Messi in tears after Argentina’s incredible comeback to beat Egypt 3-2 at the World Cup: 🗣️ “Seeing Lionel Messi in tears after that final whistle tells you everything. People see the trophies, the records, the goals, but they don’t always see the weight he carries on his shoulders. He carries the dreams of an entire nation every single time he steps onto that pitch.” “This was not just a comeback victory it was a battle of heart, belief, and character. Argentina were 2-0 down, their World Cup dream was slipping away, but Messi refused to let his team give up. He kept fighting, kept leading, and showed why he is one of the greatest competitors football has ever seen.” “The emotion we saw from Messi was the emotion of a player who understands what it means to represent millions of people. He doesn’t play only for himself; he plays for Argentina, for his teammates, and for every fan who believes in him. Tonight, he showed the human side behind the legend.” “Great players create moments, but true legends create memories that last forever. Coming back from 0-2 to win 3-2 in a World Cup knockout match is the kind of night that will be remembered for generations. Messi didn’t just lead Argentina to victory he gave them a moment they will never forget.”

.@UANI applauds the Trump administration’s revocation of General License X. The regime in #Iran has been operating in bad faith and has violated multiple provisions of the MOU. It attacked three tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz in the last 24 hours alone. This is a strong signal to the regime that the U.S. will not tolerate Iranian malign actions across the region and in the Strait of Hormuz.

FWIW, 2 sources who told me the same thing: Trump called Infantino to understand the rules, didn’t make a specific ask & was told it was being independently reviewed "If Trump had put his thumb on the scale and achieved this result, he would have a field day bragging about it”
Ben Jacobs@JacobsBen

🗣️ A US official confirms to @Emilylgoodin that President Trump and Gianni Infantino spoke following Flo Balogun's red card. "The President and Infantino did speak, and the President wanted to better understand the reason why a red card was given and why there was a suspension. "The appeal process is run by an independent board. The US government provided additional evidence that was used in the appeal process."

“Fellow Citizens, I am not wanting in respect for the fathers of this republic. The signers of the Declaration of Independence were brave men. They were great men too — great enough to give fame to a great age. It does not often happen to a nation to raise, at one time, such a number of truly great men. The point from which I am compelled to view them is not, certainly, the most favorable; and yet I cannot contemplate their great deeds with less than admiration. They were statesmen, patriots and heroes, and for the good they did, and the principles they contended for, I will unite with you to honor their memory. “They loved their country better than their own private interests; and, though this is not the highest form of human excellence, all will concede that it is a rare virtue, and that when it is exhibited, it ought to command respect. He who will, intelligently, lay down his life for his country, is a man whom it is not in human nature to despise. Your fathers staked their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor, on the cause of their country. In their admiration of liberty, they lost sight of all other interests. “They were peace men; but they preferred revolution to peaceful submission to bondage. They were quiet men; but they did not shrink from agitating against oppression. They showed forbearance; but that they knew its limits. They believed in order; but not in the order of tyranny. With them, nothing was “settled” that was not right. With them, justice, liberty and humanity were “final;” not slavery and oppression. You may well cherish the memory of such men. They were great in their day and generation. Their solid manhood stands out the more as we contrast it with these degenerate times. “How circumspect, exact and proportionate were all their movements! How unlike the politicians of an hour! Their statesmanship looked beyond the passing moment, and stretched away in strength into the distant future. They seized upon eternal principles, and set a glorious example in their defense. Mark them! “Fully appreciating the hardship to be encountered, firmly believing in the right of their cause, honorably inviting the scrutiny of an on-looking world, reverently appealing to heaven to attest their sincerity, soundly comprehending the solemn responsibility they were about to assume, wisely measuring the terrible odds against them, your fathers, the fathers of this republic, did, most deliberately, under the inspiration of a glorious patriotism, and with a sublime faith in the great principles of justice and freedom, lay deep the corner-stone of the national superstructure, which has risen and still rises in grandeur around you. “Of this fundamental work, this day is the anniversary. Our eyes are met with demonstrations of joyous enthusiasm. Banners and pennants wave exultingly on the breeze. The din of business, too, is hushed. Even Mammon seems to have quitted his grasp on this day. The ear-piercing fife and the stirring drum unite their accents with the ascending peal of a thousand church bells. Prayers are made, hymns are sung, and sermons are preached in honor of this day; while the quick martial tramp of a great and multitudinous nation, echoed back by all the hills, valleys and mountains of a vast continent, bespeak the occasion one of thrilling and universal interest — a nation’s jubilee.” - Frederick Douglass

“Now, are we a people or are we an idea? We’re both. That’s the honest answer. We are a people with a story, a language, a history — and we are a creed that anyone can join. That’s the miracle of it. A Taiwanese boy eats his first cheeseburger and decides he’s moving to the country that invented it, and twenty-five years later, he’s a citizen, married to an American, and an ordained minister standing before his church thanking God for 250 years of this nation. He loves this country more than the tenured cynics who were born here and can’t stand it. I’ll take a thousand of him. When you bind yourself to the ideal, you become one of the people. No other country on earth has ever really offered that. To this day, none does.” ewerickson.substack.com/p/the-greatnes…
