Prior to his appointment, Khamenei had occupied a position comparable to that of Ahmad Khomeini, a son of Iran's first Supreme Leader Ruhollah Khomeini - "a combination of aide-de-camp, confidant, gatekeeper and power broker." @UANI quoted in @DailyMirror, below. mirror.co.uk/news/world-new…

This is 🔑: The regime has long put its own welfare above that of the population, analysts noted. “If it survives, it can claim victory, no matter how much destruction the country suffers,” @UANI Senior Advisor Dr. Saeid Golkar told @nytimes. nytimes.com/2026/03/18/us/…

Esmail Khatib, the Iranian intelligence minister who'd survived the initial strike on Iran's senior leadership, is dead. Israel announced his death, with Iranian state television confirming the killing on air Wednesday. "This man had American blood on his hands. His network specifically targeted current and former U.S. officials, including President Donald Trump," said one American official. See UANI's profile on Khatib: unitedagainstnucleariran.com/esmail-khatib-…

#BREAKING: #Israel's defense minister announces #Iran's regime's intelligence minister has been eliminated and says significant surprises are to be expected today. To understand who Esmail Khatib was, we @UANI wrote a profile of him below. Khatib was also on the new @RFJ_USA, so after Larijani and now Khatib's killings, that should give you a roadmap of next targeting. unitedagainstnucleariran.com/esmail-khatib-…

#Iran’s regime's Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib was the target of overnight strikes in Tehran, @IranIntl has learned. No information was immediately available about his fate. Ynet in #Israel has learned that indications are he was killed. Khatib was one of the most repressive actors in the Islamic Republic, responsible for teams engaging in cyberattacks, plotting assassinations, and repressing the people of Iran. He also presided over spectacular intelligence failures but managed to keep his job. Khatib had wide-ranging experience, at #IRGCterrorists intelligence, heading the Office of Supreme Leader Protection Organization, the Judiciary's Protection Organization, and head of security at Astan Quds Razavi. iranintl.com/en/202603189971

Ships sneaking through Strait of Hormuz? How? One "transited along Iranian waters rather than in international waters signaling that it could have received approval to transit from the Iranian regime," UANI's @JemimaShelley told @WSJ. wsj.com/world/middle-e…

A few observations on the reaction to Ali Larijani's elimination in #Iran today: First, the fact that there are Iranians inside #Iran who are cheering Ali Larijani's demise while there are American and European voices who are basically in mourning for him on social media really shows you that there has been a longstanding problem in the West relating to perceptions of the Islamic Republic, nurtured by years of regime influence operations. It's truly a sad moment. Second, there is an argument to be made that eliminating the so-called "moderates" will actually accelerate the decline of the Islamic Republic faster than would have been otherwise. This is why Iranians have argued for years the so-called "moderates" are more dangerous than the so-called "hardliners" as they have the ability to lure in credulous Westerners with false promises of reform. I hear some voices even going as far as speaking about them being able to usher in "peace deals." To even argue that is to fundamentally not understand the regime you are dealing with. In fact some of the bloodiest crackdowns in the Islamic Republic's history--Bloody Aban in 2019 and the protests in January--occurred during so-called "reformist" administrations. It's time to retire this entire outdated dichotomy that has dominated U.S. discourse on Iran for far too long.

“Over the weekend, U.S. strikes targeted military infrastructure on Kharg Island … they have however not targeted Iran’s oil infrastructure.” My comments on @WIONews yesterday.
