Ultimately there is no task that can serve as the Turing test because what makes people different from machines is the presence of independent will that can’t be co-opted to perform some preselected task.

@nomad421 @mhsatman @l_II_llI It's not really a battle; it's about making it work in applications where it makes sense, as you say. But I also think GC is unfairly vilified much of the time.

@mhsatman @l_II_llI @JeffBezanson Statically compiled is only a small part of the battle to compete with C++. I think another huge part is not having a runtime. I can't see GC'd languages (generically) competing in the C++ space; but sure for specific applications they could.
