The real measure of education: Can this person learn anything on their own? A PhD in Greek who taught physics without having taken any physics courses. A biochemist who learned pedagogy by reading and watching, not by taking education classes. These aren’t exceptions. That’s autodidacticism, which is the skill that matters most after graduation. The person worth hiring is the one who says, “I don’t know how to do this, but I’ll learn it.” Can you learn a coding language from YouTube tutorials? Can you understand a hard paper by reading it slowly twice? Can you teach yourself? That’s the superpower.

@SaveAusUnis @JasonClareMP 🇦🇺 will be saved only if politicians take back basic service industries- healthcare, education and realestate/housing- back to public hands and start heavily regulating and implementing standards and oversight for these sectors. Otherwise this is just ripping tax payers' money

Save Australian Universities
Australian universities have spent an incredible 1.8 billion on consultants in one year alone while cutting hundreds of jobs crying poor. They also aren’t disclosing what they are spending the money for. This level of corruption is shocking and unseen. @JasonClareMP

It's the birthday of Stefan Banach—a man whose brilliance was so natural that he had to be gently tricked into earning his own PhD. Banach was not the kind of person who chased degrees or academic titles. He loved mathematics deeply, but he had little interest in writing formal papers or preparing a doctoral thesis. To him, discussing ideas and solving problems mattered far more than collecting credentials. But his colleagues saw something extraordinary in him. They knew his ideas deserved recognition, and they were determined to help him achieve it—whether he cared for it or not. So they came up with a clever plan. They arranged for an assistant to regularly meet with Banach under the pretense of casual mathematical discussions. During these meetings, the assistant quietly took detailed notes of Banach’s thoughts, proofs, and insights. Over time, these notes grew into a complete doctoral thesis—without Banach ever formally “writing” one himself. When it was ready, Banach simply reviewed and approved it. There was still one final step: the oral examination. Once again, his colleagues used a bit of creativity. They invited Banach to discuss a mathematical problem they claimed to be struggling with. Banach, always eager to talk mathematics, showed up without hesitation. What he didn’t realize was that this “discussion” was actually his official oral exam. He passed, of course—effortlessly. And that’s how one of the greatest mathematicians in history earned his PhD: not through formal ambition, but through pure love of ideas and a little friendly trickery.

@seahorse_anton @TweetsOfSumit Not true - in Australia 🇦🇺 seems even worse (from experience), jobs nowhere for find, neither for experienced professionals nor for entry level, you need to be v. lucky or 'jobs for mates' (even if not properly qualified). Western world similar everywhere

Tech in EU is dead. But job market all over the world is in chaotic situation. Other countries can look forward. But Europe has many structural problems and lack of risk taking/paperwork/start up culture. Except defence sector - looking for extremely specialised guys (like optics) . on the long run it is also not good. If it goes like this the logistic sector will feel because consumption will not run like before when inflation and war economy dominates and place the huge pressure on common folks .

The job market in tech in Germany seems to be pretty tough right now. Maybe I'm in a bubble, but I'm seeing lots of folks, engineering leaders, PMs, developers, who struggle to find jobs right now. Unemployed for months. "Open to work"-badge on LinkedIn. They all had cushy 6-figure positions before and can't find anything right now. Are these isolated or something you can see as well?

@21percentgroup It is always '3-5 years plan' - plan that typically spans a few years which more sort of lame excuse to do nothing (substantially), but simply put big announcements (like nicely written essays) for poor to no results - or like the old expression says 'mountain moved, mouse came'

@dom_ma Access to European Horizon funds for research (from 2027) is also incredible opportunity. Opinion: australia should also contribute, not just 'take parts' and - very importantly- treat research students and academics like in EU (eg full work rights etc) - not like casual slavery

This is incredible. I didn’t see it reported in Australia, so very grateful to the poor Brits for pointing it out. International work rights are so important these days when a lot of professional careers require going where the job is.
Alex Taylor@AlexTaylorNews

Australians can now live & work freely in the EU for 4 years and vice versa That means they now have 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 EU rights than British people. Free movement offered millions of us fantastic opportunities but Brexiteers slammed that door shut, most shamefully on their own children
