@Wamagaisa They don’t get foreign currency,Puma does. They have an agreement where they redeem their coupons at Puma sites. This is an extraordinary circumstance i guess,if they don’t act they will go under.

@Jeneth7 Don’t they get foreign currency allocation from the central bank? Do the agreements allow them to unilaterally vary the terms?

1. Redan, a fuel retailer, says fuel duty makes up 68% of the new price of diesel. For every litre of diesel you buy at $3.11, $2.11 goes to the taxman. Redan says tax rose by 358%. This time government didn’t say it was raising tax. It just buried it in the fuel price.

@Wamagaisa They would have used the funds to buy fuel which has set margins. They did make their margin but i don’t think it would be enough to cover the increase in duties. For example a million coupons in circulation would mean 1.6million in duty yet their margin could have been 10c per lr

@Jeneth7 Have you factored in the fact that they already received the funds last year and May already have made money on it? They are businesspeople, surely they don’t just sit on cash?

@Wamagaisa Expecting Redan coupon to bear the cost of the increase in duty will definitely lead to their closure. If someone bought a coupon last year and redeems it today,Redan coupon has to pay duty on the new rates. They are trying to survive and stay in business.

2. But it’s hardly fair for fuel retailers to unilaterally change contractual terms where clients hold pre-paid coupons. They might cite some small print in the contracts but that’s unlikely to pass the fairness test in contracts. But it’s up to clients to challenge this practice

@Zimra_11 I don’t have a BP number and hence no tax clearance. It’s really sad that you get punished like this and yet you are trying to do the right thing. This does not help with ease of doing business at all.

@Wamagaisa Someone once said to me “nyika ino haitongeke vanhu vasina kudhakwa” 😂😂in reply to my question on why Delta gets priority on forex allocations for beer..

If authentic, then as argued yesterday, Delta played the hard-bargaining game. And the quick resolution, RBZ agreeing to allocate forex to Delta, suggests the government values beer and fizzy drinks more than the health of its citizens.

Just Arrived In Harare today: The city is broke, sad & miserable faces all over, business is not as usual, long winding fuel queues. Situation is terrible. The economy is bleeding, pared down by Zanu Pf & Mnangagwa. Harare is horrible. A serious &radical intervention is necessary

@nqabamatshazi This is the exact move the people want the govt to take. Everyone knows that the prevailing price hikes are not justified. E.g Delta Corp has announced their soft drinks must be sold 50c, but some greedy dealers still charge $1. People want action against such dealers.

@MhofuChief @KMutisi Which productive business do you own?You have such brilliant ideas on how to be a wealth creator.Kindly share those ideas.Where should people buy cars now since importing second hand cars shouldn’t.Who set up the education system to be what it is?

@KMutisi Spot on bro. I have to be frank and say most Zimbos were brought up to be managers in this system and lack zero creativity. Busy importing secondhand cars to make a quick buck but no one is willing to step out and create something of real wealth both to the nation and themselves

If you are importing, it means you have US$ . It means you have forex. Why do you ask us WHERE WILL I GET US$ for duty? Get it from the same place you got the US$ for importing. Some arguments are lame & Stupid. People importing are externalising forex, they can't be rewarded!

@lashiasn @malaikadiva @Wamagaisa @MthuliNcube Why can’t we just accept that this is who he is?Why do we need to find excuses for him?Of he wasn’t happy about the way his account was being run,he would have changed by now.I have come to realise that no man is “special”,professor or not,he just the next guy.

@malaikadiva @Wamagaisa I don't think the people managing @MthuliNcube's account are doing him any favours. Surely a man of his intellectual reputation would not make such erroneous comparisons?
