@tiffany_peltier What's the best way to decide longbwirds? (Serious question! - new 3rd grade teacher trying to teach SoR to fidelity)
English

@AnjanetteMcNee2 @tiffany_peltier They only point out when WE are wrong. They will never admit when they are wrong. And they are wrong about a LOT. Because they DID cherry-pick. All the half truths and inaccuracies are going to dribble out.
English

@tiffany_peltier My biggest frustration with the reading science movement is people cherry picking their favorite parts and ignoring the rest. I'd love to hear from those who were pushing auditory only PA. It would help a lot if big names would admit when new research has changed their thinking.

@teachbk Has she ever actually taught an HMH lesson before?

@TalkingTier1 @FilleLiberte @tetheredtoed1 Why would I want to stay on when one comment leads to name calling. No thanks.
English

@JeniferPStory @FilleLiberte @tetheredtoed1 No. You have a false understanding of D.I. That’s the issue here.
I’ve noticed you’re new to Teacher Twitter. Stick around, especially on the side that focuses on the things WE can control. You’ll enjoy the slow turn toward what’s in the best interest of your students.
English

Things that will close the achievement gap:
1. Literacy first every instructional minute
2. Desks in rows facing the front where the teacher is
3. Baseline is quiet and calm classrooms for reading and thinking and handwriting/drawing
4. No phones 📵 bell to bell
5. Gaining attention and focus by removing and de-implementing
6. Grades that are percentile based not assessment word salad
English

@TalkingTier1 @FilleLiberte @tetheredtoed1 We obviously have different interpretations. It actually came up in my class last week and what we read and discussed in class is aligned with what I have always understood and what I wrote. So we'll have to agree to disagree.
English

@TalkingTier1 @tetheredtoed1 I just don't know what comment I made. I've never been called that in my life!🤣🤣🤣 Oh well!
English

@JeniferPStory @tetheredtoed1 Yes. Your comment is a straw-man. If you can’t see it, that’s a huge problem.
English

@TalkingTier1 @FilleLiberte @tetheredtoed1 I know about direct instruction. Thank you. There are times it is appropriate, but it is not my style all day long. I want my students learning and engaged.
English

@JeniferPStory @FilleLiberte @tetheredtoed1 You know nothing about Direct Instruction if you think the teacher is doing all the talking.

@pedsscrub @libsoftiktok @SpaceCampUSA In my state, if you work in the schools in any capacity, you are fingerprinted/ background checked. But that's the extent of it. They don't go pouring through social media for 100s of people. In this case, he shouldn't have made it past the interview!
English

@libsoftiktok @SpaceCampUSA Are people who will be around children not vetted anymore?
English

Many concerned parents are reaching out to us about an alarming situation unfolding at @SpaceCampUSA.
Molly Bowman is a man pretending to be a woman who works as a team lead and hall monitor at @SpaceCampUSA for young children.
The camp director reportedly confirmed that Molly is allowed in the girls dorms. He even allegedly went into the girl's showers while they were changing.
He also has a history of s*xual and inappropriate twitter posts.
How is this allowed???

English

@FilleLiberte @tetheredtoed1 Please explain "entirely inappropriate."
English

@JeniferPStory @tetheredtoed1 It worked for generations. The group work is almost entirely inappropriate for elementary grades. Children are not responsible for others learning only their own.
English

@_BlakeHabyan @CollinRugg Because we have no compassion or morals.
English

@CollinRugg Terrible.
Why was mostly everyone fighting or watching/recording on their phone instead of helping?

@JeniferPStory @brianstelter Yes. I’m aware of this. I went to school too. It might surprise you that I went all the way through school. Nearly as far as you can go.
English

@DDouche2 @brianstelter I saw it.
The test they take to determine reading on grade level is a state test (that some adults could struggle with). Learning to read is more than sounding out words. It's a process that they prep for in K and work on in 1st, 2nd, 3rd. It's not reading without comprehension
English

@JeniferPStory @brianstelter Watch the video of the SOTU address at the top of this thread. Biden says “to see that every child learns to read by third grade.” I wasn’t confused, I didn’t say it, Biden did. That was the point of my post.
English

@DDouche2 @brianstelter They don't mean decoding 3 & 4 letter words. They mean reading multipage stories and writing essays to show their understanding. You didn't learn that in 1st grade. Go Google sample questions from a 3rd grade state reading test. That's the reading they're talking about.
English

@JeniferPStory @brianstelter I learned to read in 1st grade. The president said all kids should be reading by 3rd grade. I was learning cursive by third grade.🤷♂️
English

@hamill_law @brianstelter Kindergarten? No. Do a little homework about learning how to read before jumping on here pretending you know anything about it.
