This is desperate stuff. Is this the same ‘outstanding chancellor’ who inherited a 2% inflation rate in July 2024, managed to almost double it within 12 months with huge public sector pay rises and massive tax rises on business costs and has only now seen it come down to 3%, still 50% above her inheritance and the official inflation target? And still the highest inflation in the G7.
Yes, I feared it was. Exactly for what does she deserve credit?
I expect inflation to return to 2% early summer, simply back to where it was when she became chancellor. And that will be due to global price trends rather than anything she’s done.
So two wasted years to get back to where we were — two years which prolonged the cost of living crisis left by the Tories.

It’s coming down! That’s down to @RachelReevesMP. Why isn’t @christopherhope acknowledging that? 2% is the BoE, CPI inflation target set by HMG and monitored by MCP. We will get there under the excellent stewardship of our outstanding @UKLabour Chancellor. Give credit, where due.

How does a public railway employ MORE staff but run FEWER trains? 🚩
SWR is failing its 2% cancellation target (currently 4.6%) in part due to crew shortages & training backlogs.
What’s the plan @Heidi_Labour? AND When will the FULL timetable be restored? @SW_Help #SWRWatch
English

@swtrains_watch @SW_Help And the @SW_Help “ peoples’ railway” continues to skip stations - including major hubs like Clapham Junction - when services (particularly suburban) are running six or seven minutes late! @Heidi_Labour what are you doing. The #Nero if Britain’s railways
English

⚠️Transport Secretary @Heidi_Labour blames 'inherited problems' for rail mess, but stats differ. Since @SW_Help nationalised, cancellations spiked 50%. On Windsor Lines, barely 1 in 2 trains (54.2%) are on time. State control isn't fixing the past - it’s failing the present!
English

The rudest woman working for state owned (serving the people not the shareholders) @SW_Help - platform 5/6 at Waterloo this evening so 19:35. Could not explain why trains are skipping stations if they are five minutes late. Let’s ask the controller @Heidi_Labour
English

@BBCNews at 7:00 am on @BBCr4today this morning retitled Mark Carney from Prime Minister of #Canada to President! I must have missed something?
English

Thanks newly nationalised @SW_Help
Two successive trains from Richmond to CLJ have been cancelled. One will go straight through. This is the nationalised railway for the passengers not the shareholders, @Heidi_Labour

@RFMFrance Est-ce vrai que collectivement vous ne savez pas qui va animer quelle émission à quel moment? Comment pouvez-vous travailler?

I have just watched the @BBCLondonNews bulletin. A report on the @LondonUNDERGRND strike. But no request for a comment from #TfL chair @MayorofLondon who promised no strikes in “my mayoralty”! Where is he? Where is your journalistic rigour?
English

Well done to the state-run rail operator @SW_Help….. No services through Wimbledon because of clearly advertised #engineeringworks, but then you cancel trains on the Putney side. Still #cantrunarailway. What was the purpose of nationalisation, @Keir_Starmer

English

⚠️ From Monday 11 August there will be a reduced timetable for services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids, until further notice.
This is due to speed restrictions between Gillingham and Axminster.

Another @SouthernRailUK service London to Eastbourne using @GatwickExpress stock…. How to confuse those not familiar with the line…
English

Has @BBCr4today changed its policy towards #MPs by now calling them by their first names when interviewing them?
English

@TigerDonald2000 @swtrains_watch @SW_Help @Heidi_Labour I be agree, but the previous MD of @SW_Help when appointed promised to stop skipping stations….. very short-lived!
English

@JeremyDunton @swtrains_watch @SW_Help @Heidi_Labour But this situation has been going on for about 50 years and yet people keep finding it new and novel. It is a long term problem that could have been fixed except that the industry keeps on employing the same bad managers year after year. That's where they should be looking.
English

Please provide working air-conditioning for passengers, run trains at full length, and avoid skipping stations to make up time. Thank you. 🌞 @SW_Help

☀️ Hot weather is forecasted this week- please remember to bring a bottle of water with you when you travel. If you feel ill on the train, speak with a member of staff, or disembark the train at the next stop. Please check before you travel: southwesternrailway.com/plan-my-journey

Well, go back to privatisation of SWT, when on day one Glenda Jackson, Opposition spokesperson for Transport in London criticised the SWT delays…. They were the result of engineering works…. not operator performance…. What’s good for the goose….
SWR Watch@swtrains_watch
@Chris_TheDriver @SW_Help @transportgovuk This was meant as a humorous comment, implying that little will change under the new regime. Nothing more.
