The mayor says he is “keenly aware of the serious concerns.” It is striking how that awareness extends to protesters who may have to stand a few feet away, yet somehow does not extend to Jews being screamed at as they try to enter a synagogue. We are not asking to silence protest. We are asking for basic dignity and the ability to pray without harassment. When that becomes negotiable, something has gone very wrong.

🚨 NEW: Mamdani says he's "keenly aware of the serious concerns" regarding NYC Council bill to protect synagogues from outside protests. The bill, poised to pass tomorrow, has 35 co-sponsors, enough for a veto-proof majority. MORE ⬇️ forward.com/news/815239/sy…

@benedtl @JeremyHenson Florida requires state ID to prove who you are, much like when you get a real ID in Oregon. It’s illegal in Oregon to file out someone else’s ballot or vote if you aren’t a US citizen

This is what looks like to take action. OUR ELECTIONS ARE RIGGED in Oregon too. Our Democrats gaslight the people, saying security measures (even as simple as proving your identity to vote) is somehow voter suppression. Our Republicans SAY they want election security while doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about it. In fact, not one single elected Republican in Oregon openly supports IP37 to require voter ID and verified absentee voting. Oregon has plenty of commissioners, sheriffs, and legislators who can use their elected power to intervene on elections THEY ALL KNOW are not secure. Bravo to Riverside County, CA Sheriff, Chad Bianco. I pray your courage is contagious.

In a 2021 recording, Trump is heard discussing “confidential” and “secret” documents, including a plan of attack involving Iran. In the recording, Trump acknowledges that he cannot declassify the documents. He was later indicted under the Espionage Act.

A prominent Jewish Democratic donor in Chicago is raising alarms that growing efforts to demonize AIPAC are part of a more sinister endeavor to make pro-Israel Jews feel unwelcome in a party they have long called home. @matthewkassel reports: ji.news/4v285

Being an open Messianic Jew has gained me a couple friends but a lot of hostility, anger, rejection, accusation, and being unfollowed/ blocked by people who I thought were on my side. Hardcore Orthodox religious Jews are determined to give Messianic Jews the rejection experience similar to Jesus, which only makes the lived experience for us more realistic, meaningful, and essentially deepens our connection to Christ Yeshua is Messiah

#ChineseJews The Jews of Kaifeng are considered China’s only native Jewish Community. Jews have lived in Kaifeng, a city in central China’s Henan province, for over 1,000 years. This makes the Kaifeng Jews the oldest Jewish community in China. The exact time Jews arrived in Kaifeng is not entirely certain. Most scholars believe that Jews first arrived during the Song Dynasty (960-1127 C.E.), from India or Persia (present day Iran), stops on the Silk Road. During this period, the Chinese people called the Jews “Tiaojinjiao” (the religion that removes the tendon) because Jewish dietary law (kashrut) forbids the consumption of the sciatic nerve. A bit later, during the Ming Dynasty, the emperor assigned Jews one of eight last names because he found Hebrew names confusing. To this day Kaifeng Jews can be recognized by their last names: Ai, Shi, Gao, Gan, Jin, Li, Zhang or Zhao.  Much like Jews outside of China, for centuries, Kaifeng Jews centered their Jewish practices around the synagogue: observing Shabbat and other Jewish holidays, holding circumcisions for sons and giving their children Hebrew names in addition to Chinese names. At its peak, the community had around 5,000 members. Today, 500-1000 Jews still live in Kaifeng but many have made aliyah (return) to Israel in recent years, but proving their Jewishness is complex. Chinese descent is patrilineal, which means that descent is calculated through male links only. Traditionally, Jews use matrilineal descent to determine if a person is Jewish. Influenced by Chinese practices, Kaifeng Jews trace Jewish lineage through the patrilineal line. This practice produces extra challenges for Kaifeng Jews who wish to be accepted as Jewish by the larger Jewish community — especially those seeking to move to Israel. Since Kaifeng Jews don’t fit the criteria of Israel’s Law of Return, they are required to go through a yearlong conversion process in order to become Israeli citizens. Although communist China has never recognized Judaism as an authorized religion, for years Judaism has been unofficially tolerated all over the country. However, China is cracking down on all non-government approved religions due to concerns that minority religious groups could lead to social and political instability.
