Do any Maths Depts use a mixture of years for GCSE mock papers to prevent students finding Paper 2 and 3? If so, which ones do you use? @Just_Maths @mathsjem @1stclassmaths

@robeastaway If I'm correct, I can think of several contributing factors: • F'dation tier stops at 5 so might stop some students achieving a 6. • Some students are happy with a 4 / 5 - no incentive to get a 6. • Students aiming for 6 may well find the Higher tier demoralisingly difficult.

Here's a statistical mystery to solve. Exams marks typically follow a smooth bell curve, so you'd expect grades to do the same. But in Spanish GCSE they don't, they always dip at 4 (which some call the "pass" grade) and spike up at 3 (which some call "fail"). Explain.

@robeastaway I suspect there might be a dip at 6 for Maths too.

The dip at 6 is also mysterious. Is 7 (the rough equivalent of the old grade A) the beneficiary?
