It's not a conspiracy; it's the natural result of what's going on. State-run actors are paying chip fabs FAR more than they will make on the consumer market to build server farms. As consumer PC parts dry up, it will price out most people from PC gaming. Dumb cloud nodes are the futre.

So is there a conspiracy to eliminate desktop compute and force you into the cloud? This certainly will push more people to the cloud, but I believe it’s more of a combination of greed, AI growth and limited capacity all arriving at the same time. You don’t need a conspiracy when the outcome is the same. Covid shows we can go through at least 2 years of a hardware drought okay. So time will tell.
