A system will bring widespread rain to the region today through Friday. Interior New England and southern Maine will see the highest totals of 1.50" to 2.50". A few rivers could reach action level, but none are forecast to reach flood stage at this time.

New research from Dartmouth College confirms something climate scientists in the Northeast have speculated about for some time: Rainfall is happening in shorter, more intense bursts with longer dry spells in between storms. Read more: vermontpublic.org/local-news/202…

Here's a look at how this past winter ranked compared to the historical record at longer term stations that are a part of our Cooperative Observer Network that are located from Northeast Pennsylvania and New Jersey across Eastern New York into central and southern New England.

This morning's advisories and warnings verified a and more than likely the last frost advisors of the season. Not impossible I'm wrong but we should make the turn towards warmer this weekend.

Think it's safe to wave the "all clear" flag for planting any frost-sensitive plants in southern New England. Warmer pattern ahead should push us above that potential. #Gardening #wbz

The last time both weekend days topped 70F in Boston was the start of October. Also the last time Logan airport hit 80F. #wbz

Here comes the season's first widespread surge of humidity! Muggy air will build across the Midwest this weekend before spreading into the Great Lakes, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic next week. These stickier conditions won't stick around, only lasting a few days.

Last week we started talking about the pattern change around start of May 17 week. It's still there! Consistent warmth! 70s, 80s.

I can't make any guarantees, but given climatology AND the weather pattern going forward... this may have been the coldest morning in southern and central Maine until next fall.

We're off to the second driest stretch (since Jan. 1st) on record. As if on cue, a late week coastal storm brings the goods.

🐦 If you’re hearing more birds early this morning, there’s a reason why: Kansas and Missouri saw their biggest migration night of the year so far, with an estimated 115 million birds crossing both states.

Even though some areas have seen a bit of an uptick with the number of days with rain lately, it has really been a while for many areas since we last saw a month finish with above normal precipitation. At some locations you would have to go back to last May to achieve that.

Some frosty spots off to the N&W tonight as skies clear out Looking at the pattern ahead it will probably be the final chance of the season as a much warmer regime kicks off this weekend

It's a little early to get too specific on the forecast for Memorial Day weekend, but here is the latest 8-14 day outlook that covers that period from @NWSCPC. As you can see, above normal temperatures are favored in the East in that time period.

As a New Englander, I feel like we set unrealistic expectations for spring weather. Average highs don't reach 70F until May 27th! Seems complaints begin by mid-April. Measurable precip occurs roughly 2 in every 5 days. It's not exactly dry & sunny!

Given 3-day forecast precipitation totals through about 1 inch for southern New England and coastal NH and Maine, rain this week is likely to delay drought conditions from becoming worse in southern New England and southern NH.
