“The team is more important than myself. I want to win for them, I want to play with these guys, why not be out there with them? If I feel like I can play through something, I can play"

Elite players always have more freedom/leeway with shot selection/playmaking. They have the capability to do things others can't. So our job is to coach them up on how to harness that skillset within the flow of the offense.
I always say, elite guys do the routine better than everybody else. Then when the time calls for it you instill them with the confidence to let the special ability come out.
Worst thing you can do is takeaway the confidence in their super power. Just teach him how to use it more effectively.

Marquette’s 6'0 Nigel James jr has taken his play to new heights in Big East play
James in BE play is averaging, 19.7 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 5.9 APG, 1.9 SPG while shooting 50.3% FG, 43.9% 3PT (4.1 3PA), 65% FT
Ton of offensive juice, he's quick, explosive and crafty with a ton of wiry finishes. He's point blank one of the best athletes in college with a motor that never stops.
Type of grittiness that doesn't come very often, Nigel's always going a blast to watch and he's starting to really elevate his offensive game

Marquette’s Nigel James is one of my favorite freshman guards coming into college basketball for next season The 6-0 defensive beast Nigel James put together a very productive senior season averaging 11.3 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 5.1 APG and 2.4 SPG at the Eybl Scholastic level Despite only being 6’0, James isn’t just one of the best athletes in the freshman class, he’s one of the best period next season, chippy defensive minded guard who locks up full court and a very shifty playmaker. Marquette’s future face of the program, he’ll play as a freshman and the growth will only progress past that.

🇨🇦 6’3 Sophmore G Taj Au Duke has been steady force for @ihccbasketball.
• 12.9 PPG
• 3.8 APG
• 2.9 RPG
• 44.2 FG%
The transfer guard from Pepperdine has been a consistent producer and leading scorer for Indian Hills in their 14-2 start. Taj is a skilled scorer that plays with pace and poise! Consistent playmaker in pick and roll!
Mid season Highlights!

From Jon Scheyer to Bob Richey to D2 coaches to NAIA coaches - they’re all talking about the “rollercoaster” ups and downs of coaching in today’s game.
It doesn’t matter who you recruit. Every year you bring in 3,4,5, or more new players. Recruit high schoolers, and it’ll take time for them to mature through college game reps. Bring in transfers, and it’ll take time acclimating to your program’s culture. The results will be ups and downs throughout your season.
Coaches can’t get too high with the wins or too low with the losses.
Strong cultures with transformational leaders and players who buy in and develop mental toughness will have the best chances for success.
