Last week I posted about my Mom making hard tack candy at Christmas. Several people asked for the recipe, here it is:
Don't panic, but my Mom wrote recipes with the bare minimum instructions! I just know this: You have to use a candy thermometer. There is a temp that is marked Hard Crack on the thermometer. It is for hard tack candy. The sugar, corn syrup and water get boiled to that temp. Remove from the stove add 1 Teaspoon of the flavoring oil, and food coloring. You can pour it onto a pan, or my Mom rolled it out in a long snake on the kitchen table and cut WHILE SOFT ENOUGH into bite size pieces. Let cool, than put in a bowl and cover with powdered sugar. This keeps the candy from sticking to eachother. Each batch makes 1 flavor. She made 10 flavors!
