Today, our economists released the latest jobs report. Utah’s April unemployment rate held at 3.8%. Job growth for the state came in at 0.6%. Although job growth is slower than last year, it is still much stronger than the nation’s job growth which was measured at only 0.2%.

Even though the job market has been tightening for job seekers, we are not seeing widespread layoffs or job losses. It is taking workers longer to find new jobs. Total job creation is still well ahead of the national trend, with expansion concentrated in a few key industries.

For March 2026, Utah maintained a steady 3.8% unemployment rate, the same as Feb. and Jan. Utah’s job growth increased an estimated 0.6%. These numbers continue to outperform the national numbers. The country posted and unemployment rate of 4.3%, and job growth of only 0.1%.

February’s unemployment rate came in at 3.8%, the same as January. Utah’s job growth for Feb. increased an estimated 0.7% across the past year, with the state’s economy adding 11,600 jobs. The national unemployment rate is 4.4%, 0.1% higher than Jan. 2026, and job growth was 0%.

The January jobs report came a little later than expected. This is due to the annual benchmarking process. This process increases the accuracy of the labor market data. In addition, numbers were delayed due to last year's government shutdown that impacted the collection of data.

January’s unemployment rate for Utah increased slightly to 3.8% and job counts grew by 0.6% over the last year (adding 10,500 jobs). Utah's key economic indicators are once again better than the national numbers. Nationally, job growth was only 0.2% and unemployment was 4.3%.
