🚨The situation in Melmoth, in the uMlundi area of Zululand, provides a clear example. Some of the largest commercial avocado plantations in South Africa have been established there for decades, producing more than enough fruit for the domestic market and for export worldwide. However, members of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, together with what can only be described as a Zulu mafia syndicate, systematically harassed and pressured white farmers to sell their land to connected Zulu individuals. They ultimately succeeded in forcing out generational families of successful white farmers who had employed and cared for thousands of workers, offering them excellent salaries and conditions. Four years later, those same workers are now phoning the original farmers, begging them to return. After taking control, the new owners looted everything of value on the farms, stripped every avocado from the trees, and completely neglected the plantations. The once-thriving orchards have been destroyed, and only a handful of farms in the area are still able to produce successfully — an indisputable fact.
