Reform said the Makerfield by-election was a waste of taxpayers’ money. Now Nigel Farage is triggering a by-election of his own.
The explanation will be that this is different because he is seeking a mandate from voters. Some may call it a double standard.
Either way, it is classic Farage: take the fight to the voters and put himself at the centre of the story.
The question now is whether the voters reward the gamble.
