Tweeting against the insanity of HS2 and the politicians and vested interests who support it. I don't endorse any particular political party.

Water companies are ruining our seaside, prison is the only deterrent. Last yr illegally dumped raw sewage on more than 15,000 occasions. Execs rewarded, dividends paid, customers fleeced. No one held to account. Criminal activity exceeds that of mafia. archive.ph/KOPMK

HS2 will go down as one of Britain’s biggest modern day failures. Costs spiralled. Timelines collapsed. Scope cut back. And after all that, it won’t even deliver what was originally promised. This isn’t just mismanagement, it’s a masterclass in how to waste taxpayer money at scale. Imagine what £100 billion could have done elsewhere.

LBC EXCLUSIVE: 'Strip his knighthood': Minister backs review of ex-environment agency chief's honour over toxic water scandal. James Bevan presided over the utter decimation of the Environment Agency and every river in the country. Current project is that by next year just 6% of England's river will be in good ecological condition. That is his legacy. Should we show him any deference? None whatsoever, strip him of his knighthood. lbc.co.uk/article/calls-…

Sir James Bevan spent 8 years at the Environment Agency and oversaw the decimation not only of the agency but every river in the country. He's recently reappeared again on the boards of Welsh Water and the Canal and Rivers Trust. The man is not fit to handle this week's shopping list never mind run an organisation especially a water company.
Patrick Galbraith@PaddyGalbraith

Is it right that Sir James Bevan is now a trustee of the Canal and Rivers Trust after his inability to tackle England’s sewage pollution crisis while running the Environment Agency? @Feargal_Sharkey thinks not Strip ex-Environment Agency chief of knighthood, say water campaigners telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/…

The right wing papers are saying the pension age needs to be raised to 75. I counter, the number of billionaires needs to be reduced to 0. That will affect 0.00006% of people, and they will still be far too rich. But it will pay for pensions, healthcare, housing and much more.

I caught this view of India Buildings while standing atop the former Martins Bank Building on Water Street, and it’s incredible how these two are architectural twins. If you’ve ever walked down Water Street and felt like you were in 1920s Manhattan, there’s a reason. Here are 4 things these Liverpool icons have in common: 1️⃣ The Same "Mastermind": Both were designed by the legendary architect Herbert J. Rowse. He won the competitions to design both, and he was so proud of them that he actually kept his own offices inside both buildings. 2️⃣ Rowse worked in New York and Chicago before coming home, and he brought that American Beaux-Arts ambition back to Liverpool. Both buildings use massive steel frames clad in Portland Stone, filling entire city blocks just like the skyscrapers of Wall Street. 3️⃣ If you’ve seen the barrel-vaulted shopping arcade in India Buildings or the jaw-dropping banking hall in Martins, you’ll see the shared DNA: Travertine marble, ornate bronze, and a level of luxury rarely seen in offices today. 4️⃣ Both saw action in WWII. While India Buildings was tragically bombed in 1941 (and later painstakingly restored by Rowse himself), Martins Bank was used to secretly hide 280 tonnes of the UK’s gold reserves to keep them safe from invasion.

The Post Office’s behaviour is disgraceful - first with the victims of Horizon, and now with those caught up in the Capture scandal. They have admitted that the Capture software was faulty. Their own Chairman has said he would support mass exoneration. Yet still they fight the victims. This is indefensible. The Government is the sole shareholder of the Post Office. It must step in and bring this madness to an end. inews.co.uk/news/post-offi…

"Clearly government is now complicit in presiding over one of the greatest acts of criminality and lawbreaking that we’ve witnessed in the modern world in this country. The truth is, government needs to start bringing criminal charges against the executives and boards of those water companies that were knowingly, wilfully disregarding the law.”. Leading lawyer who has represented wrongly convicted sub-postmasters quits over David Lammy’s ‘tyrannical’ jury reforms. Flora Page KC has resigned from her role at the legal services watchdog in protest against Lammy’s sinister plan to curb our ancient right to jury trials. She has said that the government’s plan would “rip the heart out” of the rule of law and that she will now focus her efforts on campaigning against these reforms. Flora has also taken aim at the Prime Minister for sanctioning the “act of tyranny”, which she describes as “a sign that this government has completely lost its way”. She also criticised the Justice Secretary and Courts Minister Sarah Sackman for “hijacking the suffering of victims” by arguing that the reforms are necessary to deliver justice for victims of crime. We all know Lammy’s plan won’t work. The Institute for Government has shown that his plan would save only 2 per cent of Crown Court time — not the 20 per cent he promised. This is an authoritarian government hellbent on taking away our liberties. How many more leading figures in the law have to tell the government this is a bad idea? Get a grip @DavidLammy. ft.com/content/033046… The contractors did not know the risks because neither HS2 nor DfT did not appreciate & did not want to know the many risks of this mad project which were there from the start. Bad management just made it far worse.
