Was truly grateful to get to speak with @JohnThorntonJr recently about HELD, the organization he founded that addresses poverty by providing guaranteed income directly to people in need. They started in Greensboro, NC, they're saving lives, and they're growing. We discussed his ministry work after graduating from Grapevine Faith, his career as a standup comic, and his ideas for helping those in need. Weekend listening perhaps. Really enjoyed this. youtube.com/watch?v=Xa-2jr…

the notion that the Democrat in the race is unelectable because he worked for Joe Biden is downright laughable

@AliceFromQueens @besttrousers I'd guess free market means "being able to buy the stuff I want to buy when I want to buy it" and "capitalism" means "the richest of the rich having way more than everyone else"

I think it's really basic. Like free markets are good because freedom is good and consumers like to make choices. Capitalism calls to mind large-scale finance and financialization-- bad because small groups of very rich stranger make consequential decisions you have no say in--and greedy bosses. Doesn't call to mind local bank loan officers who want to help fund your new ice cream franchise store, nor your booming 401k

The case for a recalibration on Israel is clear and convincing, but the idea that Gaza is *the* aspect of the Biden record that Democrats need to reckon with is a convenient fiction to avoid accountability for the political and substantive domestic failures!

There’s an obvious opportunity here, but: — Progressives + media are mostly focused on safe seat primaries — Leadership energy is mostly focused on fending off the left — Little time left for “we learned our lesson about inflation & immigration, here’s the proof.”
Ronald Brownstein@RonBrownstein

Trump’s job approval rating has plummeted below the level that triggered midterm wave elections vs Clinton 94, W. Bush in 2006, Obama in 2010 & Trump himself in 2018. And yet most surveys do not show Dems establishing a clear advantage in the key races that will decide control.

@charlotteeffect @zeteo_news @andrewperezdc @SearchlightInst The biggest upshot of this polling for me is that people want a choice. Support for M4A comes in at 52% when you imply that people will have a choice but drops to 40% when you clarify that they’ll be forced off private insurance onto a government plan.

We @SearchlightInst enjoyed collaborating with @zeteo_news on this M4A polling. It gets at the question of why M4A starts off reasonably popular but gets less popular as people learn specifics. (Tl;dr: it’s because people don’t want to be forced off their private insurance.) 1/x

@IsaacLHarris Leaving a 3 star review: I was really impressed by Isaac 1's passion, but was a bit confused when he tried to use a traditional turn of phrase to explain something.

@JHWeissmann Do you think there's any contradiction there with the fact that people associate the current state of the healthcare system with the reform named after a Democratic president?

But actually, regular dems should just be focused on reminding people that they are the health care party, and spend time thinking how they're actually going to deliver on their promise to fix our mess of a system.

I'm speaking just for me, not anyone else at PPI. And it's obviously colored by recent local races. But I think the "center" of the party — whatever that really means — should worry less about fighting the left, and more about building its own message. politico.com/news/2026/06/2…

@MattZeitlin The overall problem, which applies to student loans, was everyone could see his brain didn’t work and basically every failure confirmed that and there weren’t any successes that could counter it.

lots of biden retrospectives focus on gaza or immigration but the student loan forgiveness policy was a complete disaster on both substance and policy and there's been less postmortem analysis of exactly what happened and why
Matt Grossmann@MattGrossmann

People who expected to have student loan forgiveness but did not get it were substantially worse off than if none had been announced because of the financial decisions they made expecting forgiveness nber.org/papers/w35319

@BharatRamamurti The highlighted question is all that matters, but it's telling that you ask it as a question. We are destined to be unhappy. That is unsolvable. We are not destined to be poor and unequal.

I have no issue with Project 2029 and similar plan-generating initiatives. But as I write today, what I think Democrats really need is a Project 2050: a concerted effort to decide what we think America should look like in 2050 if we regain political power in DC. 1/

At the end of the day, the New Christendom/Christian Nationalism/the NETTR crowd have already reached their apotheosis, and that apotheosis is... a fandom. @johnehrett called it:

This is why I’m not really interested in these comparisons. Dirk got right in the doorstep once, lost in horrifying fashion the next season, then found a way back years later with a GREAT cast around him. All the while he was a metronome. Similar stats, year after year, 50 wins

Absolutely. Dirk failed a lot. He also had the fewest all star and all nba teammates of just about anyone to win a MVP/ring. That one ring is largely viewed by anyone who watched as one of the toughest ever. Went through four once/future MVPs and something like 10 HOF guys
GM Sanchez@masanchez10

I mean he did have a number of 1st round exits in his career including losing as the MVP and 1 seed to the Warriors. Thats a lot of first round exits as a top dog, amazing what 1 ring does to a career narrative TBH
