@leucocrystal @tweetyenergy I believe he saw it at Sundance and told Ray Liotta how he loved it. Ray told him they need a help to bring it out to the public and Cruise said I'll do it. Todd Field also credits him for helping to launch his directorial career. The things this man does for cinema!

fun fact: did you know when cameron crowe (director) was bummed about reception of Elizabethtown, that tom cruise (executive producer) not only didn’t blame crowe, but took crowe to visit Knocked Up set to reinvigorate crowe’s joy of filmmaking; then crowe made We Bought a Zoo

@tweetyenergy TC always builds close relationships with other filmmakers and keep supporting them; as he produced two Robert Towne films "Ask the Dust" and "Without Limits", even campaigned for Donald Sutherland in the latter to get his first overdue nom, which unfortunately he didn't.

which is directly related fifteen years later: McQuarrie is talented and deserves the right to make his own films with other cast and the opportunities coming his way ARE IN PART DUE TO TOM CRUISE BEING McQ BIGGEST HYPE MAN publicly but also behind the scenes

@AbbasAmjad7 @ScottMendelson @k_shinzon85 'cause it was picked up by Vertical, a rather poor distributor with no marketing way after its festival premiere (where it got mixed reviews). That film had Jude Law, Vanessa Kirby and Ana De Armas in bigger roles, all stars. Unless you claim theyre box office poisons as well

Post later, but THE DRAMA is going to drop just 35% in its second domestic weekend. And since the $28 million movie topped $28 million worldwide on opening weekend, it is not “struggling to break even.” THE HOUSEMAID is a goddamn miracle, and everyone involved (Sweeney, Seytfried, Feig, Lionsgate’s marketing folks, etc.) deserves copious proverbial flowers. But we’re all better off with more movie stars and more non-franchise breakout hits.
Noir 浮世@madcap412

Left: - Zendaya-led movie - Budget: $28 million - Struggling to break even Right: - Sidney Sweeney-led movie - Budget: $35 million - Shatters box office projections with $398 million BO total I think Hollywood just got first-hand evidence of what people ACTUALLY want to see

Ah, here we go. FIRE DOWN BELOW is the 60 million dollar pollutant that killed Seagal’s WB contract. Only someone like Steven Seagal could make a white savior environmental action film about saving white people

Y’all know that Tom Cruise and Chloe Zhao news is fake right? The last two Mission Impossible films didn’t hit the way they were suppose to. I can’t believe I’ve seen multiple outlets pick this up. The spread of misinformation is just out of hand at this point.

@DanielGorman20 It wasnt for lack of trying. Many of those projects sounded better on paper and hes strong enough in "White Boy Rick", "Beach Bum" and even much panned "Sea of Trees" which was an interesting change of pace for him.

@jfkenney If it wasn't for "Jurassic Park", it seemed like Goldblum was somewhat entering his dark roles phase at that time with this and "Deep Cover"

Kristen Stewart says acting is by nature “quite embarrassing and unmasculine,” and that going Method is a way for some male actors to temper the “inherently vulnerable” side of being a performer: “There’s no bravado in suggesting that you’re a mouthpiece for someone else’s ideas. It’s inherently submissive. Have you ever heard of a female actor that was method?” variety.com/2025/film/news…

I watched this whole thing without realizing it was actually made by a real credentialed director. Maybe we should let it all burn, no one knows basics of how to make a movie anymore. Basic blocking increasingly eludes "filmmakers."
