Canada has been buying and operating water bombers for decades. ✨️Provinces, not the federal government, are primarily responsible for wildfire suppression, and Canada already has one of the world's largest aerial firefighting fleets. The challenge isn't simply "buy more planes." There are limits on trained crews, maintenance, weather, smoke, and where aircraft can safely operate.
As for Ukraine, the money allocated for military and foreign aid isn't a pot that can simply be converted into firefighting aircraft overnight. Those are separate policy decisions.
If the solution were as simple as "buy some f*cking water bombers," every wildfire-prone country would have solved the problem by now. Including France.
