Canada's inability to mitigate, contain, and prevent its wildfires must be addressed. These annual fires significantly harm not only our health and quality of life, but also our economic prosperity. I have discussed this situation with our Ambassador in Ottawa, Peter Hoekstra, and have personally reached out to Canadian government officials. I call on the Canadian Government to fully and regularly inform appropriate US agencies such as the EPA as to the status and mitigation action plan regarding the fires. I also encourage Canada to work with the US government to find concrete solutions to address their ongoing wildfire problems. Michiganders must stop paying the price for bad policy.

I love living in Michigan. Except today. Michigan is a beautiful, diverse place. Fresh water, good people, strong culture. But today, Michigan is the epicenter of the "explosive diarrhea" outbreak, it's close to 100 degrees, and we have the worst air quality IN THE WORLD due to smoke coming in from Canadian fires. Other than that, things are great. I have to conclude one of the reasons why life sucks here is due to our horrific government - shutting down CDC programs that track food-borne diseases, and our total lack of giving a crap about climate change. It's like the chickens have come home to roost and dumped a pile of shit on our heads, all at once. Americans must demand better leadership and not tolerate Republican distractions like what's going to happen at 9pm tonight, as Trump recites his 2020 election fairy tale for the umpteenth time, or another trans bathroom bill gets voted on. Look around. We have a wonderful, beautiful country. And we are screwing it up.
