Health officials are examining whether the bacteria behind the Kent meningitis outbreak has mutated.
Scientists are analysing samples to see if it has developed “additional superpowers” that could explain the unusually rapid spread.
The outbreak is being described as highly unusual, with a large number of cases linked to a single event rather than isolated infections.
