Interestingly, almost every consulting firm presentation I attended for ten years stated that "80% of consumers [say they] will pay more for sustainable products". I used to sit at the back as a lonely marketer thinking "that's bollocks". But the consulting firms made money implementing all this woke shit, so it paid them to continue reciting this dumb litany.

@rorysutherland Ibstock brick launched a carbon neutral brick factory, they felt they would be able to demand a 20% premium on the products. Guess what the customer didn’t agree and they had to drop the prices to the standard rates

@CheckmateEA @UNmigration Actually #Somaliland has another airport at Berbera, (famously with one of the longest runways in Africa). It has daily flights to Addis.

@UNmigration Hargeisa’s airport (only one in SL) accepts flights from genocidal Somalia as (domestic flights), It is the only airport in Somaliland exists.. and it has direct flights to failed Somalia… allowing travel between the 2.

It’s about time we speak about the fact the most region that is extremely pro Somalia and in LOVE with it, is Maroodijeex, Hargeisa.
It’s fully integrated with their beloved failed entity.. it has to be re-liberated again like 1991.

@ktdrozdowski @unherd Fascinating. It would be interesting to know where particular inflows tend to concentrate. Eg. Barcelona seems to have relatively high immigration from South Asia rather than North Africa.

Still, there’s little excuse for USAF’s failure to adequately protect its airbases against missile & drones

We salute and pay tribute to all women, whatever their roles during the Second World War, whether on the Home Front in factories and offices, working the land, serving behind enemy lines, or on clandestine operations.
They absolutely made a difference to the end game and contributed to victory in Europe.
Could we have won the war without them?
The answer is a resounding 'No'!

@TheCinesthetic Interestingly the HBO version of Rome season 1 is better than the BBC’s. The latter was worried that there was too much politics & history & wanted to emphasise the sex & violence so combined the first two episodes into one.

Rome (2005–2007) genuinely looked bigger and richer than most movies airing at the time. The sets, costumes, crowd scenes, political drama …every episode felt like HBO accidentally dropped a full historical epic onto television every week.

@KateClanchy1 Well, that was a depressing & infuriating breakfast read (what terrible people - the publishers as well as the vicious twitter activists). It was mitigated a bit by the knowledge that you weren’t permanently cancelled. Was the book ever republished in proper form?

When I flew into Erbil, Iraq, in 2003 the Israeli base was already common knowledge. The Israelis, I was told, all carried South African passports.
The question is why @WSJ is documenting the Israeli base in 2026.

@mattwridley I think it made a lot of sense to assign l’Étranger because it’s such an adolescent book. It doesn’t seem at all cool or clever to me now, but it did when I was 16, and therefore got me reading in French with enthusiasm.

When I was assigned Camus's L’Étranger when I was a 17-year-old college student, I thought it was dreadful, reaffirmed when I re-read it 50 years later for a BBC radio program. Not surprised, then, by Jaspreet Singh Boparai's review of a new film adaptation: "François Ozon deserves credit rather than blame for exposing the essential banality, poverty, and mediocrity of his source material for L’Étranger, even if he did so entirely by accident." open.substack.com/pub/quillette/…
