@Alowwe91 @esaagar Did you get a bill for $1500 or and explaination of benefits for $1500. If it’s the first call and offer to pay them $400 they will probably take it and be done If it’s the second, nobody is seeing much more than your copay/20%

You have a right to compassionate care and doctors have the right to not assume undue liability. We’re trained not to prescribe something w/ a worse risk profile just bc of preference. Americans love to sue AND the DEA doesn’t play. Medicine/healthcare isn’t a typical commodity.
Julia Marie@julia_doubleday

And then when they suggest medication you go like “oh, really? A medication? You think that could work? I don’t knowwww”. Like genuinely as a patient this is the shit I do to make sure doctors prescribe me things lol like reverse psychology on a toddler

@notnickok @whowecovldbe @NicoReznick This entire conversation may be the most frustrating one I’ve ever seen on here (saying a lot). If a deli worker had a tweet saying “man it’s kinda annoying when people don’t tell me how much ham they want” would it start a 3 day rant about the evil’s of deli culture?

I'm not gonna lie. It's frustrating when you ask a doctor for help, but because their ego is slightly more fragile than an ice cream cone, you have to pretend you're incapable of pattern recognition and only got uploaded into your body the day before.
Jonathan@jabberwock951

I'm not gonna lie, it is frustrating when you ask a patient what's wrong and they just give you a diagnosis. Like "I have a chest infection". OK, you're probably right but I need to know your symptoms to see if I agree with that diagnosis. I can't just take your word for it.

Do you notice how when patients are sharing bad experiences with doctors as a reaction there never is accountability or acknowledgement? It's always sth like "patients don't understand / are ignoring that... " This is literally proving the point of not being taken seriously.

@Bduq22 @Steigerworld2 I don’t understand this argument. All events are fabricated aka “planned”. Do you get mad about car cruises? Fall festivals? It’s a giant block party centered around a national television product for the most popular sport in the country……

Why is the most overrated, over hyped event in Pittsburgh history - the NFL Draft- going to be a major distraction from events much more deserving of the city's attention? Give me a minute.

@staywith_ash @sauvamemte I’m a Physical Therapist. The amount of people i see in a month who are 100% certain they have X going on when they almost certainly don’t is mind numbing, especially when you factor in the time and effort it takes to discuss alternative hypotheses. I do it but it’s frustrating.

So when somebody comes to you with a suspected diagnosis, you talk to them. You list symptoms & deduce further. You ask ‘Do you have xyz symptoms?’ So on & so forth, then you come to a collaboration & do tests, it’s very easy to listen to a patient if you’re not an egomaniac.

@staywith_ash @sauvamemte The biggest mistake this guy (and many people) made was using Twitter like a diary. Verbalizing internal frustration when it doesn’t impact performance is a way to avoid burnout. Maybe just don’t broadcast it to the world.

@staywith_ash @sauvamemte But that’s the issue i don’t think he’s making a fuss, in the post it literally says “you are probably right”. Everyone’s response is the one making a fuss which is confusing the hell outta me.

@JonGraySwag @sauvamemte I'm a medical student and i can't even comprehend being frustrated about patients coming in with a potential diagnosis. When you could just ask further questions to get their chief complaint. Such a weird thing to make a fuas about

@TXMCtrades @mycorrhishizzle Right to freedom of exchange. You cannot exchange without others. This is a positive right, a right which requires a market of community. Rights do not exist in an autonomous vacuum. They exist explicitly because other beings with rights and power do.

@natenotabot1234 @TXMCtrades @mycorrhishizzle But you don’t have a right to exchange you have a right to have the freedom to exchange. It’s a small but vital difference. Most of our rights involve not preventing something more than actively doing something for the very reason you bring up.

@JoshYohe_PGH It’s a giant street fair themed around NFL football. People go to “taco festivals” and “music on the block” events. It’s just that kinda idea on steroids based around a big calendar event in the NFL year.

Honest question: Why would anyone want to attend the NFL Draft? What's the appeal? It sounds like a logistical nightmare. Some of the players being selected -- including the No. 1 pick -- aren't there. What's the payoff? I'm very confused by this.

@Steigerworld2 @JoshYohe_PGH Exactly! Attendance figured are way exaggerated. No way more people attend the draft than the rose bowl, Kentucky Derby, and Indy 500 combined! Not even w/ all the media. For what? To watch Goodell make an ass out of himself chest bumping 20 y/os

@TripleAJade @sauvamemte So if you had this exact interaction (which isn’t even the implication it’s just venting but let’s say you did). Doc says ok maybe you are right can we talk about it a bit? You find that unacceptable? I’m just genuinely confused by that.

Anyone noticing that patients are all out here describing all the social contortions they take on to try to not piss doctors off, and doctors just respond with “Yeah, well you don’t get it. You aren’t as educated as me. I’m a good person. You don’t know what a pain patients are.”

@SpiderMansWaifu @Kagami1313 @Isanthropia “Didn’t care to help” is doing a lot of work here. As a PT there are critical periods of movement after certain injuries and if you don’t move it it is very difficult (if not impossible) to get it to. Chances are he couldn’t help, not that he didn’t care to.

@Kagami1313 @Isanthropia I had a doctor get upset with me, a child, for not doing PT on a finger that I don’t even remember being told to do and now my finger doesn’t bend bc the doctor blamed me a 12 year old and not my mother the adult, and didn’t care to help.

@brendanaomi @Isanthropia This is not true of all patients. The same way there are genuinely bad doctors there are most certainly horrible patients, and not just in a being mean way (that’s obvious) but in a I have no idea what to do with this person and they are not helping at all way too.

@Isanthropia What sucks about that mentality is that the patients respond immediately if you take like 3 minutes out of your day to really listen and connect with them. I wish there was a required bedside manner class in med school led by nurses.

@JonGraySwag @allie__voss I have had this same scenario actually. It's always the 5 year old computer-genius nephew that they want to believe over the computer technician that they're paying for. IMO, just get your computer genius nephew to fix it then. That's why I get both sides of this argument.

Maybe we need to start having a social skills section in med school Seems like doctors would rather argue with their patients for their own ego than ask follow up questions
