@moultano Well, yeah, because a black hole had never been imaged and no one had worked out the math on what they would look like. The physicists wrote a whole academic paper on what a black hole would look like based on their research for the movie.

It's incredible how much Interstellar completely replaced the popular conception of a black hole. Before the movie every media image of one was just distorted space and a black circle. Now they almost all have an accretion disk.

Seems we'd be great friends and have lots to talk about. eBay should definitely have a social media aspect to link up folks bidding on the same strange things. The roommate comment made me smile :-)

EBay really missed an easy launch into social media... The people you are bidding against share your interests, along with the person you are buying from! I just lost a small bidding war at 11pm over a 1973 databook from a company that no longer exists(DEC). This was a perfect chance to connect me to the other 4 people in the world like me!

Y’all said I needed to get one of these, so I found one from 1948 with instructions (good thing, cause I have no clue how to use this thing). It took me 10 minutes to find out how to get the cube root of 8, and I have yet to figure out how to get the cube root of 27 cuz 2 digits

So my first Krasznahorkai but not my last by any stretch. I think it’s probably a good entry point, too, since despite the formal elements that might appear daunting, it’s relatively easy to actually engage with and follow. What Krasznahorkai should I add next to the TBR?

Wrapped up SATANTANGO, my first by Laszlo Krasznahorkai, and really enjoyed it. It’s got a lot of post-modern elements - mirrored structure, long sentences, single-paragraph chapters - and some opacity along with its magical realism, but really (surprisingly?) approachable. 1/x
