I've just published a stupidly long essay called "The Civilization Trap" at the @SinicaPodcast newsletter page. Free. Examines how civilizational discourse has returned (think Rubio's Munich speech and China's Global Civilization Initiative. Link below.

gpt-5.3 instant is such a confusing release openai said updates to 'thinking' and 'pro' are coming soon, but about an hour later they posted "gpt-5.4 sooner than you think" i doubt they'll replace 5.3 instant for 5.4 instant in a few days so i guess we'll end up using 5.3 instant + 5.4 thinking... for some reason

I'm Boris and I created Claude Code. Lots of people have asked how I use Claude Code, so I wanted to show off my setup a bit. My setup might be surprisingly vanilla! Claude Code works great out of the box, so I personally don't customize it much. There is no one correct way to use Claude Code: we intentionally build it in a way that you can use it, customize it, and hack it however you like. Each person on the Claude Code team uses it very differently. So, here goes.

Anthropic co-founder, Jack Clark: by summer 2026, the AI economy may move so fast that people using frontier systems feel like they live in a parallel world to everyone else most of the real activity will happen invisibly in digital, AI-to-AI spaces, with only surface signs showing up in everyday life (datacenters, compute/power constraints, and the startup ecosystem)

Just wrapped my first conference in Tokyo 🇯🇵 @WebX_Asia. A few takeaways: * Japan is a sleeping giant in crypto. GDP close to Germany/India, population more than 2x larger than Korea, but relatively low retail trading volume today, and few world-stage crypto companies. Only ~5% of Japanese retail trades crypto vs ~25% in Korea. Why? * The main culprit is taxes. Crypto gains are taxed as income (55%) vs cap gains (20%). Crazily enough, until recently, they taxed unrealized gains (!!), making domestic TGEs impossible, as you'd owe a boatload of taxes immediately. This was recently repealed, but still need to fix the punitive tax rate. * This tax arbitrage is a big part of why MetaPlanet trades at a premium to NAV—buying a corporate shell of BTC is tax-advantaged vs trading BTC directly. * The Japanese Prime Minister and Finance Minister both spoke at WebX about crypto. (Bitcoin Las Vegas 2024 vibes?) Clear political vibe shift, probably following the US's lead. They promised to fix crypto tax treatment soon, but probably takes over a year? * Corporates drive a lot of the energy here, which is pretty unique. Most countries, grassroots retail leads and corporates follow late. But in Japan, you see SBI (major Ripple stake), Sony, Sega, Nomura, all moving fast and making big moves. * Lots of focus on NFTs/IP tokenization—Japan knows IP is one of its biggest global exports and are always looking for new ways to monetize it. * Like everyone else, they also see the finance angle. Recently approved a yen stablecoin ($JYPC), but not much distribution yet. * Retail loves XRP and ADA here. They’re cult assets, with their own communities separate from the rest of the scene. * Once Japan fixes its tax laws, I expect crypto adoption to accelerate here. For founders looking to expand to the Japanese market, localization + ground game + strong local partners are critical. Can't treat Japan as an afterthought, culture is very different. Edifying trip! Domo arigato Japan 🙏

If you're in Singapore for SuperAI, I'm giving a keynote tomorrow morning. The topic is automating the state and returning power to the people. AI can handle much of the drudgery that burdens us, freeing up time to go outdoors and enjoy being human. Let's talk about how.
SuperAI@superai_conf

Excited to welcome @balajis back at SuperAI Singapore. Join the author of @thenetworkstate – he'll be taking the SuperAI main stage, 18 June at 9:55 AM. Catch his keynote in 5 days at SuperAI.

@martin_casado True to that! Having been a web developer, although a long time ago, allows me to think through. But I still think AI will help novice to a far greater extend to overcome this hurdle in the not so far future.

A truism of CS is that you need to understand at least one level of abstraction below where you operate. - OS devs -> hardware - systems devs-> OS - app devs-> systems Vibe coding is no exception.

After using Deepseek, I can no longer tolerate the basic answers provided by ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude. The Deepseek R1 results are in great depth, well sourced, structured and nuanced. The rest are just summery of findings and don’t go through a thorough internal discussion before presenting the facts. Sorry Claude. I’m removing you from my speed dial

Agreed. I particularly enjoyed this part where he shared advice for how founders can foster the confidence to take on big challenges— “It’s generally human nature to overestimate risk and underestimate opportunity… the risks are probably not as big as you perceive, and the opportunities may be bigger than you perceive… The second thing is that thinking small is a self-fulfilling prophesy.” Thanks to @FoundersPodcast for telling to watch this one yesterday.
