Dame Jenni Murray, best known for presenting BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour from 1987 to 2020, has sadly died at the age of 75. Mohit Bakaya, Controller, BBC Radio 4 and Director of BBC Speech Audio has paid tribute tribute to Dame Jenni. “Jenni Murray was a formidable voice in British broadcasting who was warm, fearless and beloved by listeners,” he said. “During her decades at Woman’s Hour, she helped shape the national conversation with intelligence, rigour and a remarkable ability to connect with audiences. Jenni leaves an indelible legacy on generations of listeners. “We are profoundly grateful for her outstanding contribution to Radio 4, and she will be deeply missed.”

Funny how many self-proclaimed ‘patriots’ spend huge amounts of time and effort avoiding taxes that pay for 🇬🇧 hospitals, schools, roads, defence and all the rest.

Over the years I’ve been in many towns and cities when they were being bombed — in a few cases (Baghdad, Belgrade etc) by my own country. No matter what the justification, most of the victims have been entirely innocent. I’ve come to loathe the very thought of aerial bombardment.

In 2023, the Conservatives cut the bank surcharge tax from 8% to 3%. Restoring this to 8% would raise £9 billion over the next four years. Last year, banks made over £35 billion in profits, with average bonuses of £20,000. It's time for banks to pay their fair share.

What with the current situation and the likes of even Meloni rebuking Trump's folly in Iran, Starmer's reticence to any involvement in a conflict with no clear plan, objective or exit strategry is seeming more prudent by the minute. Meanwhile the likes of Badenoch have pivoted to outrage at Five pound notes rather than continue to back Trump on this.

@MonkEmma @holland_tom Thank you for this Emma. I went to a school in east London in the 70s which had a lot of Jewish students. We had Christian and Jewish RE teachers and prayers at assembly didn’t mention Jesus in order to be inclusive. Not ‘woke’ just sensitive to different beliefs.

What could be more British than fish & chips? At the table in Marlowe’s, Rabbi Gilbert and Arabaab “Paddy” Munir talk about bringing Jewish, Muslim & every other community in Leeds together around the same place and the same meal. In Jewish life there’s a word for the shared joy that grows when people come together like this: simchah. I asked Paddy whether it was worth it. He doesn’t hesitate “Definitely.”…Sometimes what we share matters more than what makes us different.
