When I say that AI will empty office buildings by 2030, some people say we won't have enough compute. We won't need much compute. The jobs done in a fifty-story office building will be replaced by AI running on a single processor. The mental work a human does in a day will take only a few seconds for AI. A detailed image, a complex spreadsheet, emails to hundreds of customers - all done in seconds. In 24 hours, AI running on a single processor will do the work of 10,000 office workers. Entire companies shrunk to the size of a computer chip.

@alecttrona Yes, just the wrong size for the guy - he needs a Long. The cut and styling otherwise look good.

@JonnyTate Yeh definitely not the right size for him but I am hoping it’s just the size and not a weird cut in general

Percival have some of the most beautiful linen suits I’ve seen this season. I especially love the double-breasted style and the merlot colour is divine

@alecttrona You can see the button is half way up the model’s body. And the bottom of the jacket stops near the waist, about level with his wrists, when should be stopping around his thumbs. The double breasted suit looks great though. 👍

@JonnyTate Hard to tell if the jacket is too short on the website since we don’t know the model’s proportions/garment proportions

Think voters have a right to feel pissed off that this is what happens: Vote Blair get Brown Vote Cameron get May Vote May get Johnson Vote Johnson get Truss(!), get Sunak Vote Starmer get ?

@John_Stepek Greens easily the most unpleasant. Conservatives easily the nicest. I think two abusive tweets across several months. Can’t wait to find out what the Lib Dems are like. I hear they’re total animals.

@DouglasCarswell @antoniogm @grok You should try the ‘All In’ tech investors podcast. Very listenable &cutting edge. Listen back to the last four to six weeks episodes to get a feel for how rapid change is right now. The markets are already past the inflexion point and every official macroeconomic is now bunk.

@AaronBastani Also, impose statutory requirement for high streets to have a regional design code. Slash rates. Fine landlords who leave units derelict. Online sales tax on revenues over £5m to finance high street improvements (exemptions if they invest in high street retail themselves).

He’s talking about ‘values’ when he needs to rapidly operationalise 100 things which grab media cycle and make every part of the country better. Go after dodgy vape shops, give local authorities cash to remove chewing gum and graffiti *now*, ban high street charity ‘bins’, pigouvian tax on cans of spray paint, give Met a bollocking over de facto decriminalising phone and bike theft, bring back Burnham, reduce the size of the Lords, announce full northern powerhouse rail, have more bins in public spaces, refund BTP, promise to remove all those stupid benches that people aren’t really meant to sit on within 18 months. Have all unused phone boxes gone within 6 months. Move, get things done! But no, ‘values’.

🚨 NEW: A preview of Keir Starmer's speech tomorrow as he tries to convince Labour MPs to keep him as PM "To meet the challenges that our country faces, incremental change won't cut it. On growth, defence, Europe, energy - we need a bigger response than we anticipated in 2024 because these are not ordinary times. "Strength through fairness. It’s a core Labour argument. And you will see those values writ large in the King’s Speech, and you will see hope, urgency and exactly whose side we are on. "People need hope. We will face up to the big challenges and we will make the big arguments: the Labour case that only Labour values and Labour policies can ensure our country not only weathers these storms, but emerges stronger and fairer. "This Labour Government will be defined by rebuilding our relationship and by putting Britain at the heart of Europe, so that we are stronger on the economy, on trade, on defence, you name it. Because standing shoulder to shoulder with the countries that most share our interests, our values, and our enemies - that is the right choice for Britain. That is the Labour choice"

I know everyone is poring over election results, but let’s not forget… Today is VE Day. It’s still living memory and being able to have elections is one of the freedoms fought for. That freedom was bought by men and women who served our country. Even now our veterans need defending. The battles are different…like stopping brave veterans being dragged through the courts for vexatious claims in their old age. Conservatives continue to fight. Just yesterday, the Supreme Court reinstated immunities after my Shadow Attorney General, Lord Wolfson stepped in, acted pro bono for veterans, and won. We’re the only party doing the work. On VE Day, we remember their sacrifice. But remembrance is not enough. We should also honour our veterans by looking after them and defending them in Parliament, in the courts just as they defended us.

@timothy_stanley @PaulEmbery Because culturally right wing leaders generally a) are smart enough to recognise that left wing economics is bad for society and b) socialism is the antithesis of honouring the inheritance of tradition & customs on which conservatism rests.

Today we discussed a focus group on the Daily T and it concluded that voters are right-wing culturally, left-wing economically. As they have been since I can remember. Yet we head into another election with no one having the sense to offer just that. Such a strange country.

@DanNeidle @worstall @CallumLyon Who says that? Right-wingers highlight that top earners pay much more tax pro rata (top 1% pay 30% of total etc) not as a complaint but as a counter to constant demands they pay ever more. Even with high personal allowance, min wage earners pay a ton of VAT, Council tax, etc.

@worstall @CallumLyon Isn’t the dominant right/libertarian view now that this was a mistake, because it mean a large number of people pay almost no income tax, and so have no stake in the level of the tax?

How the fuck are people on minimum wage in the UK meant to survive alone? The maths just doesn’t work. Take home pay for a 37.5 hour week (because nobody's paying breaks anymore) is around £1,700 after tax, national insurance and pension contributions, but rent alone somewhere cheap is around £800. Add £220 council tax, £350 utilities, and at least £70 a week on food, and you’re left with about £50 for the whole month and that's before transport or anything going wrong. Minimum wage doesn’t even cover basic living anymore.

Kemi Badenoch is brilliant. Very brave and smart - she knows what needs gutting out in our political system. And nice! I know the Conservative Party has issues but I do think she would be a marvellous PM. She would also DOGE the UK, I am sure.

You may not agree with me, but you will always know where you stand with me. Today in Billericay, a heckler tried to shout me down as I spoke about the normalisation of hatred towards Jews. I did not back down, because it needs to be said. British Jews are being targeted and too many people are pretending this is the same experience of other minorities. This lady implied Muslims are being similarly targeted. This is simply not true. Let's be honest about what is happening. Certain groups (in particular but not solely Islamic Extremists) are creating a climate of fear and intimidation that is normalising Jew hatred. I will never stand for that. Governments have spent too long hand-wringing, making excuses and hoping it would go away. It is time to call this what it is: a national emergency in our attitude, our urgency and our response. I will always engage with people who disagree with me. That is politics. But there is a difference between argument and intimidation. Shouting does not make a bad case good. It's done to silence others. And it certainly does not change the truth. The truth is that British Jews have been made to feel less safe in their own country. Our country. They are being singled out, threatened and harassed in ways that should shame everyone in public life. If we do not stand up now and stop this rise in antisemitism, then why bother saying "Never Again" at Holocaust Memorial Day? Because this is how it starts. I am not prepared to play along with the pretence that this is normal, or manageable, or just another example of tension between groups. It really is not. It is targeted hatred and it is getting worse. So my message is simple. Not here. Not in Britain. And not on our watch. We need to stop the hand-wringing and start doing the right thing. That means standing with British Jews openly, unapologetically and without fear.

Kemi’s media interview today was interrupted by the kind of people that shout loudest at the Hate Marches. You know, the ones that aren’t polite enough to wait ‘til the end, then ask a question, then to actually listen to the answer. This is what happened.
