He and other members of CCC languished for months in pre-trial detention. Jameson is a businessman. He could have retreated into private life and left politics altogether, especially since his party leader had decided to go on sabbatical. But he came out and continued with his commitment to the people’s struggle. In all this, he did not proclaim himself a leader, let alone the new leader of CCC. In fact, his grouping was widely known as the Chamisa loyalists. When CAB3 came, he and others also opposed to E.D’s 2030 agenda launched a campaign against this power heist. Any freedom-loving Zimbabwean knows the dangers that CAB3 poses, and right across the political divide - from deep within the military establishment through to Zanu-PF itself as well as the opposition and civil society quarters - an uproar went up against this planned constitutional coup. So Jameson didn’t do anything by himself that other freedom-loving Zimbabweans did not do. Defending the constitution is a civic duty. It requires no mandate greater than being Zimbabwean and caring for the freedom of the citizen. I hold no brief on the internal politics of what was once the CCC party - I’m sure those involved are fully aware of all the relevant dynamics therein, and it is their right to hold and express whatever opinions they have. In my books, Jameson Timba is an honourable man and a patriotic Zimbabwean, and his response to the call of duty to defend the constitution is commendable.
