@Bernstein How is he legally clubbing in Miami (or anywhere in the US) at the age of 20?
I guess in the greater scheme of things this isn't the craziest thing, but still.

"He's an addict," publicist Mitchell Jackson tells me of Clavicular, who was hospitalized Tuesday night.
Jackson says he's dropping the looksmaxxing star unless he gets treatment.
"I'm doing this as a plea for his health."

@villeinfriend @Chris_arnade Most folks I know compare it to the "Guardian of Forever" from the original Star Trek series. Maybe the anus fixation is a you thing/
English

@Chris_arnade It doesn't help that contemporary statues are often intentionally ugly or vulgar. Seattle's Volunteer Park features a six foot tall anus. An NYC courthouse is now topped by a demon.
English

Public statues are a sign of a uniform and dominant culture that is comfortable with "what it stands for." In a politically fractured country, such as the US now, they are almost impossible to build.
They are physical symbols of meaning, and that becomes open for debate. In London, which inspired this piece, the vast majority of statues are of military, political, and imperial figures from roughly 1600 to 1950, when the UK had a more unified sense of who it was. (and great artist, again, something open for debate in a less cohesive society.)
Similarly, statues abound in totalitarian, ethnically uniform, and culturally top-heavy countries.

We should be addressing political concern about who gets commemorated by building more statues of more people — ideally traditional, realistic-looking ones that normies enjoy. slowboring.com/p/america-need…

@Chris_arnade Mutual of Omaha's dildo of consequence (or, their new HQ)

@mnolangray The men's group at my Episcopal church is just like this. Do it, whatever "it" may be for you.
English

Go to them. Clubs, churches, lodges, etc. This stuff all still exists. It's a bunch of old people who will be thrilled you showed up. Bring a friend if you're nervous. You guys have to stop intellectualizing the "loneliness crisis" and go end it by the way you live your life.
YIMBYLAND@YIMBYLAND
Honest question. How do we rebuild this? How do we rebuild our social institutions?
English

@Chris_arnade If you have the opportunity do a meal at Block 16 in Omaha. It's terrific. block16omaha.com

@aarondgettinger It looks like those History Channel "The Foods that Built America" shows.

Kremlin downplays ties with Hungary’s Viktor Orbán after his election defeat, even as Russian officials admit it weakens Moscow’s influence in the EU. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia “was never friends with Orbán.”

@FrederickMelo This Zeekr Ojai (no steering wheel or any human driver interface) and the Ioniq5 are what I was told will be Waymo's new rides. (Saw this in Denver today.)

English

Every time you turn away, a driverless Waymo sits alone on the side of a corporate parking lot, its hungry battery running cold. For just the time it takes to submit one signature, one simple click of your keyboard, you can help bring a fleet of Waymos to life… Won’t you please give? PAID FOR BY WAY-MOUTHY

English

@CheyCab @FrederickMelo The Waymo guy told me their Jag "regular car" replacement will be the Ioniq5.
English

@Joseph25069412 @FrederickMelo Look, I’m just telling you guys what a Waymo source told me. Keep an eye out for fleet changes and report back.
Obviously they aren’t selling them but they certainly will be using them. Whole fleet is getting turned over

@TheFP Bari's Touch vs. Vance's Touch: Which is more lethal, sometimes literally?

Matt Mahan may not have the name recognition, but with Eric Swalwell out of the California governor's race, it’s Mahan’s time to shine, writes Peter Savodnik. thefp.com/p/matt-mahan-i…
English

@CheyCab @FrederickMelo Saw this in Denver today - a Zeekr Ojai, built in China just for Waymo. No steering wheel or driver interface, probably how they got around the car import restrictions. Purely autonomous.

English

@nikicaga Bari's Touch vs. Vance's Touch: Which is more lethal, sometimes literally?
English

@CheyCab I guess the fact it can't be driven by a human (no steering wheel or human interface) is how they got around the "no Chinese cars in the US" thing.
English

@CheyCab Re. Waymo and new vehicles: I saw this in Denver today. It's a Zeekr Ojai, purpose-built in China for Waymo as an autonomous self-driving minivan.

English

I’m a Kia Soul girl(it’s very roomy!) Which car are you?
Eli Dourado@elidourado
It is so insane that there are only four new cars you can buy in the US for $25,000 or less. Between this, looming full autonomy, and Detroit's failure to build software-defined clean-sheet EVs, it feels like a bunch of car companies are going to get wrecked.
English

@CheyCab @FrederickMelo I don't think its' legal to import Chinese cars into the US, let alone sell them.
English

@FrederickMelo I’m they are switching their fleet(at the new Brooklyn Park depot) over to a Chinese car that I forgot the name of. I’m told they are “junk” and look like the Zook cars.
No word on what’s happening with the current Jaguar fleet
