The UK condemns the prosecution of Jimmy Lai and calls for his immediate release. My statement on the verdict today;

As we light the Chanukiah, our thoughts and prayers are with those murdered in the terrorist attack on Bondi beach today, their loved ones and the whole Jewish community. Light will always win over darkness.

JLM wishes everyone a very happy Chanukah. After the appalling antisemitic terror attack in Bondi Beach, may we fill the world with light and hope, as chanukiahs are lit. Chanukah as a festival resonates with our values of religious freedom, values that today feel fragile.

We are appalled by the scenes in Bondi Beach in Australia and the murder of Jews celebrating Chanukah at a Chabad event. Our thoughts are with the entire Australian Jewish community and the victims of this terrible attack.

Chanukah should be a time of celebration and joy. The news that the Bondi beach attack was an antisemitic terrorist attack against Jewish families at a Chanukah event is sickening. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. The United Kingdom will always stand with Australia and the Jewish community. We are actively working with the @CST_UK on the policing of Chanukah events.

Today, we remember all those killed in the appalling attacks by Hamas terrorists on October 7. We stand unequivocally with the Jewish community against hate and in the hope of the return of all of the hostages held in Gaza, and for a just and lasting peace.

Today we mark two years since the horrifying attacks on Israel by Hamas terrorists on October 7th 2023. Time does not diminish the evil we saw that day. The worst attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. The brutal, cold blooded torture and murder of Jews in their own homes. And the taking of hostages, including British citizens, some of whom remain in Gaza today. Since that awful day, so many have endured a living nightmare. When I spoke with some of the families of the British hostages, I promised them in person that we will not cease in our efforts to bring their loved ones home. But back here in the UK, our Jewish communities have also endured rising antisemitism on our streets, in our country. And last week, a horrifying terrorist attack on the holy day of Yom Kippur in Manchester. This is a stain on who we are, and this country will always stand tall and united against those who wish harm and hatred upon Jewish communities. Our priority in the Middle East remains the same – release the hostages. Surge aid into Gaza. And a ceasefire that can lead to a lasting and just peace as a step towards a Two-State solution. A safe and secure Israel, alongside a viable Palestinian state. We welcome the US initiative towards peace in the Middle East, and this government will do everything in our power to bring about the day where every child of Israel can live peacefully, alongside their Palestinian neighbours, in safety and security.

The Jewish Labour Movement is horrified by the despicable antisemitic terrorist attack at Heaton Park Synagogue today.

This was a vile terrorist attack that attacked Jews, because they are Jews. Antisemitism is a hatred that is rising, once again. Britain must defeat it, once again. To every Jewish person in this country: I promise that I will do everything in my power to guarantee you the security you deserve.

I’m horrified by the attack on Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester as the Jewish community marks Yom Kippur today. My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and the Jewish community. I’m grateful to the police and all those working to keep Jewish people safe today. Antisemitism is a vile evil. I will always stand with Jewish people in Hertford and Stortford, and across the country, against it.
