@sircalebhammer Good on you for deleting a post with misinformation rather than leaving it up to spread with a correction underneath that gets 10% of the visibility. Huge problem with X.

One of the biggest opposition arguments on data centers, especially in Texas, is around water use. Last week the Texas House's State Affairs Committee started work on their charge from Speaker @Burrows4TX. Thanks to the hearing, the facts have started coming out. 🧵

@esjesjesj Do you understand how stocks work? He doesn't have a trillion dollars in the bank and will pay taxes on those if he sells them.

@AceTadace @cenkuygur If you're a member of US Congress representing the American people you shouldn't be flying the flag of any other country. What's hard to understand about that?

@JoshZampich @cenkuygur You feel it's appropriate comparison to support a country you were born in and immigrated from versus... a country that lobbies and gives you money? Or is it just the racism factor for you?

I was in Congress yesterday and I saw signs like this in front of Congressional offices. Why? Why do you have to state your allegiance to a different country right under your name and in front of your office? We get it, you get bribed by them. But this is embarrassing.

Body cams should be absolutely universal for police. They're a win for good cops. They're a win for innocent people falsely accused. They're a win for the public who just want to see evidence of the truth. The only people negatively impacted are bad cops and criminals.

@nypost I don't understand how it's become so often that violent murderers get lenient sentences. Has it always been this way or our judges just corrupt now?

@2beep2boop @aziz0nomics Interesting. Daniel Priestly, a renowned Entrepreneur was saying governments have backed and funded these data centres and may be in danger of going bankrupt. I’m not saying I believe it fully, just that it’s something I’ve heard

@JoshZampich @AndyMasley Personally, a lot of the information I have gotten has been from indie journalism like More Perfect Union. There’s not a lot of relevant contemporary* academic information to reference. From all info I gather the issues r: construction + location, air + water toxins, energy bills

A few people have asked me about data center noise. I haven't had time to look into it much yet but I wouldn't be surprised if it were a big issue. My basic claim about data centers is "They are like most other normal industries," not "They are perfect in every way and won't ever cause any problems." My impression is that a few have been built stupidly close to people's homes, which is bad for the same reason any other big building right next to someone's home is bad. Seems like noise pollution is a real risk.

It came from a NYT story covering a couple who had spillover from construction of a data center pollute their groundwater and a story in Oregon where farmers were polluting groundwater with huge amounts of nitrates. The data center was evaporating a small amount of that water and leaving the nitrates behind, ever so slightly increasing the concentration. And that's it.

@doomergrrrl @AndyMasley I've worked in data centers for 10 years. There are no industrial chemicals entering waterways, I'm not even sure where that idea comes from. Generators, except in an emergency loss of grid, are run for about an hour each month.

@AndyMasley Andy, what about water-usage, pollution from the generator, industrial chemicals entering waterways of nearby residences? I am told every single day in an academic settings that data centers are bad. I don’t think that’s the full story. Im looking for facts + balanced opinions.

@squidwardswan @CBSNews Can you tell me what polluted water a data center produces? Because I've worked in data centers for 10 years and that answer is exactly 0. The water is used for cooling, it just evaporates.
