Global childhood immunization coverage inches forward despite conflict and hesitancy, but drop-out numbers remain high and stagnant, increasing risk of disease outbreaks: bit.ly/4pvS1uX Every child, whether born into wealth or poverty, peace or conflict, deserves the lifegiving protection that vaccines provide. Our greatest security begins with ensuring that everyone, wherever they may live, is protected from deadly diseases that vaccines have the power to prevent. #VaccinesWork

Young people aren't just the leaders of tomorrow; they are already leading today. Through the Eastern Mediterranean Youth Council, @WHOEMRO is giving them a real seat at the table. Our flagship initiative on investing in a resilient and sustainable health workforce is helping to build a health workforce that is fit-for-future, who have the appropriate competencies that can prepare them for their career pathways. On #YouthSkillsDay: Your voices + your skills = stronger health systems. #YouthSkills Day #EMRYouthCouncil #YouthEngagement #YouthInvestement

Today is a proud moment, as we open the @WHO Tokyo Office, which will house the UHC Knowledge Hub. The Hub will help to analyze best practices and share knowledge on health financing with countries navigating their own paths toward universal health coverage. In that sense, we are not just opening a building; we are building a bridge to a healthier, safer, fairer and more sustainable future! I thank @MHLWitter Minister Ueno, Professor @TakemiKeizo, and the Japanese government for their hospitality, leadership and commitment to our shared vision: the highest attainable standard of health, not as a luxury for some, but a right for all. I also thank our colleagues at the @WorldBank for their long-term partnership. #HealthForAll

Hunger is driving a health emergency across the Greater Horn of Africa. In #Somalia, #Sudan and #Djibouti, nearly 26 million people are facing acute food insecurity as conflict, drought and displacement continue to increase suffering. I am deeply concerned that without urgent support, millions of people will be left without the health and nutrition services they need to survive. .@WHOEMRO is urgently appealing for US$6.42 million to sustain lifesaving primary health care and nutrition services, mobile health teams, disease surveillance and essential medicines as part of @WHO’s Greater Horn of Africa response. Food insecurity and sickness go hand in hand. No one should face hunger without access to lifesaving care.

.@WHO has provided clinical care and close monitoring to a second U.S. citizen —a humanitarian worker— in eastern #DRC’s Ituri provincial capital of Bunia who has been confirmed with Ebola Bundibugyo virus disease. The patient has been safely transferred to Germany for continued follow-up care. As the outbreak escalates, an accelerated response from local, national, and international partners is urgently needed. WHO is working intensively under the government’s leadership and with @AfricaCDC to bring the outbreak under control as rapidly as possible. As infections among response personnel are not unexpected in an outbreak of this scale, protecting frontline responders must remain a top priority. We are deeply grateful for the courage and commitment of all health workers working to end this outbreak. WHO wishes all patients being treated for Ebola to recover swiftly and will continue supporting communities and responders across the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

#Cancer is deeply personal. It touches nearly all of us, with more than 20 million people diagnosed each year. @WHO projects that this number could almost double by 2050. We can change this trajectory, but it requires an urgent shift to a people-centred approach to cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment. I call on all world leaders to take action today: bit.ly/4fpyVmH

The #hantavirus outbreak is over.   However, @WHO will continue working with governments and partners to advance our understanding of the cause of this outbreak and of hantavirus more generally.   My thanks to all countries that supported the response, in line with the International Health Regulations: Argentina, Cabo Verde, Chile, the Netherlands, South Africa, the United Kingdom. Muchas gracias to Spain, for showing incredible solidarity in supporting the safe disembarkation and repatriation of passengers and crew in Tenerife.

اقرأ كلمتي كاملةً عبر الرابط التالي: emro.who.int/ar/media/news/…

My great thanks to @KemenkesRI Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin and #Indonesia for contributing $30 million to @WHO, as part of President @prabowo’s commitment to the WHO Investment Round. This is an important step in strengthening our partnership, as well as 🇮🇩's leadership role in global health. The Minister and I used the opportunity to discuss the ongoing global health architecture reforms, as well as how we can deepen our collaboration through the WHO Innovation Hub’s DIIP. Together, for #HealthForAll.

No single institution can address substance use alone. Substance use is not only a health issue; it is a development, social and security challenge that affects lives, opportunities and the future of our communities, especially among young people. Pleased to join Egypt’s National Policy Dialogue on strengthening the public health response to substance use. I commend Egypt’s leadership in advancing evidence-based prevention, treatment and recovery services. Through @WHOEMRO’s regional flagship initiative on accelerating public health action on substance use, and in partnership with @UNODC_ROMENA, Member States and national stakeholders, we are turning collaboration into action, expanding access to care, protecting people and building healthier, more resilient communities across the Eastern Mediterranean Region. #HealthForAll #Partners4Health @WHOEgypt | @mohpegypt | @CristinaAlbert4 | @UN

Thank you @LopesInsights. This deserves to be said louder. Africa represents 20% of the world’s population and enormous geographic, cultural, and epidemiological diversity. Yet disease outbreaks get generalized to the entire continent while similar issues in Europe are treated as isolated, local stories. That’s not reporting. That’s narrative construction.
Carlos Lopes@LopesInsights

Africa has 30.37 million square kilometers and has over 50 countries not affected by Ebola. The title below is the typical spreading of bad narratives to cover the entire continent, while singularising good news to exceptional circumstances. Finland hosts the Finnish Disease Heritage (FDH)—a collection of nearly 40 rare, inherited disorders. Is it an European story? Or a Finnish story? economist.com/middle-east-an…

The burden of antimicrobial resistance continues to rise across the Eastern Mediterranean Region, with conflict and inequities further compounding risks. The studies published in this special issue of the Eastern Mediterranean Health Journal #EMHJ highlight the urgency to curb excessive use of watch antibiotics, strengthen stewardship, tackle affordability and close research gaps. It also provides policy recommendations, including: -regulating over-the-counter antibiotic sales without harming essential access; -expanding public education campaigns targeting youth, communities and NGOs; -incentivizing local production of access antibiotics, and ensure microbiology laboratory services and antibiotic supplies in conflict and humanitarian settings; -investmenting in science research mapped to the needs of our countries with a focus on the One Health approach. High blood pressure is a silent but serious threat — and knowing your numbers can save your life. Check your blood pressure regularly and track your readings over time. Aim to keep your blood pressure below 140/90 mmHg — and remember: the lower, the better for your heart, brain, and kidneys. Taking action today protects your health tomorrow. Know your numbers. Take control. Stay healthy.
