"this is all that matters: edge and odds. Edge is private information, an insight into the true nature of reality that other game players don’t have. Odds are the probabilistic relationship between risk and reward at any given moment in time." -@EpsilonTheory

@rubenharris The first bio I read was the Puff Daddy one. I was a kid but changed my entire perspective on building businesses

Unpopular opinion: Biographies about successful business leaders will get you a lot farther than most business books. Especially if it's an autobiography.

@spooky_JL My favourite is when they call you “the quant” for helping them with a sheet.

Working with boomers is so goofy sometimes. You can make the most basic edits to an excel file and they act like you’re a wizard

I'm working on putting together a list of hedge fund headhunters that I can provide to people who reach out wanting to break in / move seats. Have a few but my list is likely dated.

@GoodsCapital I joined IB on later side and think I got out of my associate years by the skin of my teeth. It’s hard to jump in later w more real life responsibilities and hang with seasoned VPs that have been around since analyst. No substitute for experience and it’s a young person’s game.

The entire market ecology has a tough time adapting to the end of cheap (even free) money, with cash flow, rather than "valuation" being the central focus. Those who entered finance after 2008 are, basically, unskilled labor.

It’s not all profits and glory in small biz M&A. Had a sobering conversation with an operator who bought a lab biz 5 years ago. “I’m grinding away. Stressed out. I could’ve made more money working for someone else.”

.@ARKInvest must share more of our research about #artificialgeneralintelligence (AGI) and how it is likely to transform the way the world works. Within 6-12 years, breakthroughs in AGI could a accelerate growth in GDP from 3-5% per year to 30-50% per year. New DNA will win!
Brett Winton@wintonARK

you are distracted by noise over the past 2 months, the estimated time to Artificial General Intelligence has fallen by between 60 and 70% (find me a chart that is more macro-economically meaningful than this one; I’ll wait)
