THE FACE OF FAILURE: Here in Washington DC, there is an acknowledgment that Republicans may be about to suffer a brutal defeat and national rejection because of the instability and stupidity of one man who claimed he was smarter than every American, dead or alive, while most people saw him as a fool, an unstable and unqualified man with a dark heart. Most people saw this period as a dark time. I saw it as America being tested, and surprisingly, America seems to be passing that test, as most people, no matter how brainwashed they have become, have shown that they still have some humanity in them. They hate wars that pay the military industrial complex billions of dollars while starving the poor. They resent leaders who want to build a ballroom costing hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars, as is now being promoted, while most people are being crushed. They hate it when innocent people are bombed to death, including hundreds of schoolgirls, and the leader brags about that war. Even evangelicals masquerading as Christians and using Bible verses to justify atrocities and pure evil cannot stand it when the government looks the other way after hundreds or thousands of girls are sexually abused by Epstein’s friends. And so now they have lost faith in their government and might be about to send a loud message, not because they do not like conservatives, but because those who were supposed to serve as checks and balances failed to do their job.

My family and I watched the 60 Minutes interview with Donald Trump and Norah O’Donnell last night, and we were shocked. Seeing a president speak to a woman journalist with that level of contempt — and a clear allergy to facts — is disturbing, though at this point not unexpected given his pattern of behavior. But that is the problem. Because when that level of disrespect from the highest office in the country repeats itself, it starts to trickle down into our culture and define what power looks like, shaping how boys and plenty of men see women and girls and what they come to accept as normal behavior.
